Beware of False Doctrine!

Dr RJ Sing

“Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck”
1 Timothy 1:19

‘You are going to die, because you have preached rebellion against the Lord’( Jeremiah 28:16). These sobering words were delivered to a false prophet named Hananiah. He prophesied to the Jewish people that Jerusalem would be restored from Babylon within 2 years.

This prophecy contradicted the clear teaching of Jeremiah that they would be there not 2, but 70 years. Satan has his prophets who look right and sound right. They are like Hymenaeus and Alexander who, by teaching that the resurrection was past, ‘shipwrecked their (own) faith. (1 Timothy 1:19, 20) False doctrine works its way into churches as well as individuals. It misleads and steers away from ‘Faith and a Good Conscience’ (1 Timothy 1:19). All true teaching should produce ‘love’, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere Faith.

The teaching may look good and sound good, but does it lead to godly actions? Does it lead us away from ‘meaningless talk’ and focus us on saving sinners. Keep your doctrinal ship down the middle of the channel. Beware of the shorelines, no matter how appealing. The rocks of destruction are lurking just beneath the surface.
