Who we are
pastorsing.com is published by Faith in the Word Ministries, a non-profit organisation (NPO) at 350 Parkstation Road, Greenwood Park, Durban 4051, South Africa. Dr RJ Sing founded the ministry, which runs Faith Centre International. We are the “responsible party” for your personal information under POPIA, which means we decide how it is used and we answer for it.
Our information officer is Wesley Sing. You can reach us, and Wesley Sing, at communications@faithintheword.co.za or on +27 31 012 5361.
The short version
- You can read, watch and listen to everything on this site without giving us any personal information.
- If you buy an eBook, we keep your email address and a record of what you bought, so your books stay in your library.
- Your card details go straight to Yoco, our payment provider. We never see or store them.
- If you sign up for Faith Chronicles, we keep your email address to send you the devotional, and nothing else.
- We don’t sell or rent your information, and we don’t use advertising or tracking cookies.
What we collect and why
When you visit
Like every website, our hosting provider (Vercel) receives some technical details when your browser asks for a page: your IP address, the page you asked for, the time, and the type of browser and device. These server logs help us keep the site running and safe from abuse, and are kept for a short time.
We also count visits with Vercel Web Analytics, which tells us which pages are read and roughly where visitors come from. It uses no cookies and does not identify you, and we remove the extra details from web addresses (the part after a “?”) before anything is counted.
When you buy an eBook or sign in to your library
To buy a book you sign in with your email address. We email you a 6-digit code instead of asking for a password. The first time you sign in, this creates your account. We keep:
- your email address, and the dates your account was created and last used;
- each order: which book, the price and currency, whether it is waiting, paid or failed, the dates, and the reference numbers Yoco gives the checkout and the payment;
- each download: which book, which format (EPUB or PDF) and when, so we can help if you can’t find a book.
We use this to give you the books you paid for, keep them in your library, answer your questions, and keep proper financial records. Our sign-in provider (Supabase) also records sign-in attempts, which can include your IP address, to protect your account.
You pay on Yoco’s secure payment page. Your card details are entered there and handled by Yoco under its own privacy policy. Yoco only tells us whether the payment went through, with its reference number and the amount.
When you sign up for Faith Chronicles
We keep your email address, which page you signed up on, the date, and the exact words you agreed to (that you would like to receive Faith Chronicles by email and can unsubscribe at any time). If you unsubscribe, we note the date. We use your address only to send you the devotional.
The daily email has not started yet. When it does, it will come from readings@notify.pastorsing.com, sent for us by Resend, and every email will have a link to unsubscribe in one click.
When you watch or listen
His messages play in Vimeo’s video player, which we load with Vimeo’s “do not track” setting switched on. Podcast episodes play from files hosted by Spotify for Creators (anchor.fm). In both cases your browser connects to their servers, which receive your IP address and browser details under their own privacy policies.
When you contact us
If you email or phone us, we use what you tell us to help you, and keep it only as long as we need to.
Why we may use it
POPIA allows us to use your personal information because:
- it is needed to sell you an eBook and keep it in your library (carrying out our agreement with you);
- you agreed to it, for Faith Chronicles emails (you can withdraw your consent at any time by unsubscribing);
- the law requires us to keep records of payments;
- it is in our legitimate interest, and does not harm yours, to keep the site secure and to count visits without identifying anyone.
We will never send you marketing you did not ask for.
Information sent outside South Africa
Most of the companies above store information outside South Africa, mainly in the United Kingdom, the European Union and the United States. POPIA allows this where the information stays protected by laws or binding agreements that give protection similar to POPIA. The UK and EU data protection laws do, and the companies we use commit to protecting personal information in their agreements with us.
How long we keep it
- Your account and library: for as long as you have an account, so you can download your books again. Ask us and we will delete it.
- Order records: for as long as the law requires us to keep financial records (generally five years), even if you close your account.
- Faith Chronicles: until you unsubscribe. After that we keep your address marked “unsubscribed” so we never email you again by mistake. Ask us and we will remove it completely.
- Server logs: a short time, as our hosting provider keeps them.
How we keep it safe
- The whole site uses a secure (HTTPS) connection.
- Card details never reach our systems; Yoco handles them.
- Each customer can only see their own orders. Our secret keys are kept on the server, never in your browser.
- The eBook files are private. Each download uses a link that works for one minute, made only after we check that you own the book.
- There is no password to steal: you sign in with a one-time code sent to your email.
No system is perfectly secure. If we ever learn that your personal information has been accessed without permission, we will tell you and the Information Regulator as POPIA requires.
Your rights
Under POPIA you may ask us:
- whether we hold personal information about you, and for a copy of it;
- to correct it if it is wrong or out of date;
- to delete it, where we no longer need it or are no longer allowed to keep it;
- to stop using it, or object to how we use it;
- to stop sending you Faith Chronicles (or use the unsubscribe link in any email).
Email communications@faithintheword.co.za. We may ask you to write from the email address you use with us, so we know it is you. We will reply as soon as we can, and within 30 days. Deleting your account also removes your library, so please download your books first.
Children
Everyone is welcome to read, watch and listen. Buying eBooks and signing up for emails is for adults; if you are under 18, please ask a parent or guardian to do it for you. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children without a parent’s or guardian’s consent, and if we learn that we have, we will delete it.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa) at inforegulator.org.za.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we use personal information, we will update this page and the date at the top. If a change matters to you, for example a new use of your email address, we will tell you by email before it applies.
