Standing Firm

Dr RJ Sing

“Epaphras, who is [one] of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God.”
Colossians 4:12

Epaphras’s beautiful prayer is almost hidden amongst Paul’s greetings to the congregation at Colosse. When he bids farewell to the congregation, Paul gives a beautiful testimonial of Epaphras. He conveys Epaphras’s regards to the congregation and tells them that he is always wrestling in prayer for them. In his prayer he asks that the congregation will stand firm in complete obedience to God’s Will and become spiritually mature and fully assured.

If you try to live according to this prayer, your spiritual life will benefit immensely from it. To stand firm means: you will persevere in your Faith, and you will not only listen to God’s Word on a Sunday, but that you will also live it in full during the remainder of the week. To live in complete obedience to God’s Will means that you will readily subject your own Will to that of God. (See Colossians 4:10-13)

We have already spoken about Spiritual Growth. It requires of you to move ahead in your Christianity, to become increasingly like Jesus every day. I pray that this beautiful prayer will find expression in your own life. So begin to stand firm in the Word of God.
