Winning Life’s Battles – Part 4
Dr RJ Sing
“Don't fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns.”
When Paul and Silas were whipped and thrown into prison, they sincerely and affectionately praised God. They thought they were about to be executed (Acts 16:24-34). Instead of being depressed about the situation, they got excited about seeing Jesus. They praised God so loudly that the other prisoners heard them. Acts 16:25 AMP “But about midnight, as Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns of praise to God, and the [other] prisoners were listening to them.”
Suddenly there was an earthquake, and all the prisoners doors were opened, and everyone’s bands were loosed. Our praise can greatly impact others around us because God inhabits our praise. Instead of seizing their chance to escape, the prisoners stayed there, and enjoyed the presence of God.
We can find comfort in praising God. When our praise is genuine, we get lost in His presence and experience true joy, strength and deliverance. Even the prison guard was affected by the prayers and praise of Paul and Silas. After the entire experience, He wanted to be saved (Act 16:30). So, when our praise is authentic, people are drawn to Jesus because of it.
