What Made David Great Was His Goliath: 5 Daily Confessions

Dr RJ Sing, 25 min

Originally preached as “Daily Faith-Filled Confession”

Sermon outline

Speak God's Word over your life every day through five basic confessions, and God will take you over every hurdle, just as David's Goliath made him great.

Main text

  • Matthew 10:24-33

Opening

He welcomes viewers to Life in the Spirit, asks them to grab a Bible, notepad and pen, and prays for the Word to be anointed and for revelation knowledge to flow. He reads Matthew 10:24-33 and explains that what Jesus tells us in secret, in prayer and study, we must proclaim openly, and that we must not deny Him before men.

  1. Have knowledge of the Word, and follow the four-step formula

God's people perish for lack of knowledge, so study and meditate on the Word until you are proficient in it. He gives a formula to apply like medicine: say the Word, do the Word, receive the Word with the eyes of faith, and tell it by testifying. The Word is living and active, so pray and believe rather than pray and hope.

“Speaking the Word of God releases faith, releases the power of God, puts the power of God into action.”

    • Hosea 4:6
    • Joshua 1:8
    • James 1:22
    • Revelation 12:11
    • Hebrews 4:12-13
  2. 1. Hold fast to the absolute Lordship of Jesus Christ

We do not believe in many gods but in one Lord, one faith and one baptism. Whatever situation hits you, however great the challenge, stand up and confess that Jesus Christ is Lord over it, and your faith will carry you over the hurdle.

“You are to stand up and say, Jesus Christ is Lord over this situation.”

    • Ephesians 4:5
  3. 2. Confess that you do not have a care

The more you speak about your worries, the more they press you down, but we are meant to have dominion over circumstances. Cast the whole of your care on Jesus once and for all, and refuse to take it back the next day.

Illustration: His car keys: once he hands them to someone, they are in that person's control, and he does not take them back. He also questions the everyday farewell 'take care now', which tells people to go and start worrying.

“When I give it away, I refuse to take it back.”

    • 1 Peter 5:7
  4. 3. The Lord is my shepherd

When life presses you, speak Psalm 23 over the situation: the Lord is my shepherd and I shall not want. This psalm is not only for funerals or for heaven, because God prepares a table in the presence of your enemies, and there are no enemies in heaven.

Illustration: Most of us read Psalm 23 at a burial, yet the table it describes is set here on earth.

“Our enemies are here on earth.”

    • Psalm 23:1-6
  5. 4. God has set me free: I am free

Sickness, pain and fearful thoughts will attack your body and mind, but you can stop them from settling. Shout out that you are free from every sickness, disease, grief, sin and dominion of darkness, and the burden removing, yoke destroying power of God will release you.

Illustration: A saying he credits to another man of God: you cannot stop birds from flying over your head, but you can stop them from nesting there.

“You ought to declare boldly that I'm free.”

    • John 8:36
    • Isaiah 10:27
  6. 5. Christ is my wisdom, righteousness, sanctification and redemption

When you don't know what to do, confess that Christ has been made wisdom to you and you have the mind of Christ, and God will give you plans, ideas and concepts. When the devil says you are unworthy, answer that you are forgiven and are the righteousness of God in Christ, and when fear comes, declare that you are redeemed from the curse of the law.

Illustration: The devil reminds you of a sin you committed, and you stand up and say, in Jesus' name I'm forgiven.

“I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.”

    • 1 Corinthians 1:30
    • 1 Corinthians 2:16
    • 2 Corinthians 5:21
    • Galatians 3:13

Putting it into practice

  • Study and meditate on the Word so you can speak it with confidence.
  • Make the five confessions out loud every day.
  • Cast every care on the Lord and refuse to take it back.
  • Testify to others about your breakthroughs.
  • Face your Goliath instead of fearing it.

Closing

He reads Psalm 112 and asks whether your heart is fixed on God, reminding viewers that challenges will come but that what made David great was his Goliath. After the break he lays hands on a stack of emailed prayer requests, asks viewers to stretch out their hands or touch the screen, and prays for healing, for business people and for financial breakthrough and debt cancellation, then sends them out to conquer.

Declarations he led

  • Jesus Christ is Lord over this situation. I confess that Jesus Christ is Lord over this circumstance.
  • I don't take this care now. I don't take this worry now. I cast it upon the Lord Jesus Christ. I refuse to take care. I refuse to let this pressurize me.
  • The Lord is my shepherd and I shall not want.
  • God has set me free. I am free.
  • I'm free of every sickness. I'm free of every disease. I'm free of every grief. I'm free of every sin. I'm free of every dominion of darkness.
  • I have the wisdom of God. I have the mind of Christ.
  • In Jesus' name I'm forgiven. In Jesus' name I'm set free and I am now the righteousness of God.
  • I have been redeemed from the curse of the law.

In his words

  • “Hope is for the future. But believing means I take hold of the promises of God now.”
  • “When I give it away, I refuse to take it back.”
  • “If God is preparing a table for us in the presence of our enemies, then in heaven there's no enemies.”
  • “What made David great was his Goliath.”
  • “So don't be afraid of your Goliath.”
