Dr RJ Sing, 25 min
Originally preached as “Six Principles of Faith”
Sermon outline
God's will is His Word, so stand on it and apply faith pressure to every circumstance, because faith is a law that always works when it is rooted in the Word and energised by love.
Main text
- 1 John 5:14
Opening
He welcomes viewers to another half hour of Life in the Spirit, presented by Faith in the Word Ministries, and introduces six principles of faith. He begins with 1 John 5:14, explaining that praying according to God's will simply means praying in line with His Word.
The will of God is His Word, and it is His will to prosper you
God takes pleasure in the prosperity of His servants, so religious thinking that says it is fine to be poor must go, because the poor cannot help themselves or others. As a man thinks in his heart, so is he. Set side by side, these scriptures show it is God's will to bless you and run you over with blessing.
“Simply put, the will of God is His Word.”
- 1 John 5:14
- Psalm 35:27
- Proverbs 23:7
- Luke 6:38
Apply faith pressure to every circumstance
When circumstances contradict what you believe, hold on to your confession and do not move. Applying faith pressure means three things: pray diligently, read the Bible consistently, and make daily faith confessions. Jesus taught that we ought always to pray and not turn coward, faint or give up, because the Word never fails.
Illustration: In ministry he has seen many people lose patience, throw in the towel and say the Word does not work.
“You ought to apply faith pressure to every circumstance.”
- Luke 18:1
- Hebrews 4:12
- Psalm 138:2
1. Faith equals the Word of God
God used faith and words to frame the worlds, and you cannot separate faith from the Word. To grow your faith, get the Word into you, because faith comes by hearing. Meditate on it, which means to reflect deeply and speak what has already been spoken, and apply it like medicine instead of speaking your circumstances.
Illustration: He admits that when situations hit him he feels a strong urge to speak the circumstance, but he has trained himself to use his tongue as a pen to write God's promises.
“To meditate means to deeply reflect and speak what has been spoken.”
- Hebrews 11:1
- John 1:3
- Hebrews 11:6
- Hebrews 11:3
- Romans 10:17
- Genesis 1:3
- Hebrews 6:18
- Psalm 45:1
2. Faith is a law
We are justified by the law of faith. Governments amend their laws, but God does not change and neither does His Word, which will not return void. When God sets a spiritual law in motion and you follow it properly, the outcome is always the same.
Illustration: Whoever jumps off a high-rise building will fall whether he believes in gravity or not; like gravity, lift and thrust, faith is a law that always works.
“People will make you promises and their promises will change but God's word will never change.”
- Romans 3:27-28
- 2 Timothy 1:7
- 2 Corinthians 4:13
- 1 Peter 1:23
- Malachi 3:6
- Hebrews 13:8
- Isaiah 55:11
- 2 Corinthians 1:20
3. Faith gives you authority
Many believers never see the end of their faith because they don't understand their covenant rights as righteous, justified children of God. Faith in the Word gives you authority over every circumstance and trial, and dominion to speak to any mountain, death or sickness. Jesus said whatever you ask in prayer, believing, you will get it.
“Faith in the word gives you authority over every circumstance and every trial in life.”
- Mark 11:23-24
- Jeremiah 33:3
4. Faith works by love
If you are not walking in love, your faith is not working, however much you pray or give. Faith is activated, energised and expressed through love. If you want world-overcoming faith, perfect your love walk by loving people who do not love you, and the Holy Spirit will help you.
Illustration: A torch cannot work without batteries, and faith cannot work without love.
“Like a flashlight needs batteries, faith needs love.”
- Galatians 5:6
Putting it into practice
- Pray diligently, read the Word consistently and make daily faith confessions.
- Speak the Word over your situation instead of speaking the circumstance.
- Never quit, faint or turn coward when circumstances contradict your faith.
- Perfect your love walk, especially towards people who do not love you.
Closing
He prays for faith to be activated in every viewer, comes against discouragement and the spirit of weariness, and prays strength, love and blessing over them for the week. He invites viewers to join him again next week.
