This is the whole service. The video opens where he begins, at 1:00:27.
Originally preached as “The Blessing of the Lord”
Sermon outline
From creation to Abraham, God's intention has always been to bless His people, and the blessing of the Lord, which makes rich and adds no sorrow, flows to those who let Him instruct and direct them, fear Him, and give Him their first and their best.
Main text
- Proverbs 10:22
- Genesis 12:1-4
Opening
He leads communion: when we take the bread we are one with Christ, bought with His blood and chosen out of billions, and the cup is a price we must dearly treasure, because He made a way out of darkness and a way in to God. He decrees healing and 'all is well', teaches that lifting your hands takes humility, gives a prophetic word that nothing is too hard for God, and while Pastor Adrian leads 'Sweet Anointing' he ministers prophetically over a young man and the children of the church, and speaks to barrenness. After praying for revelation and welcoming visitors, he says that although they have been teaching on the kingdom, this week he dreamt he was speaking with Brother Copeland about the blessing of the Lord, and woke with those words hammered into his heart.
God has always intended to bless
God blessed Adam and Eve, told them to be fruitful and have dominion, and blessed Noah and his sons, giving creation into their hands. You can track the bloodline of the blessing to the beginning of time: man fell, but God's intention today is still to bless you. Those who fear the Lord will have mighty children, and the generation of the upright will be blessed.
“When God created mankind, He blessed them.”
- Genesis 1:28
- Genesis 9:1-2
- Psalm 112:1-2
Before God insulates you, He isolates you
God told Abraham to leave his country, people and father's household. Sometimes being cut away feels like rejection, but God does it to teach you His ways and bless you before He releases you again. Moses spent 40 years in Pharaoh's house and 40 in the desert, becoming the meekest man on earth: humility brought brokenness, and brokenness brought power.
“There's no power in somebody that has no brokenness.”
- Genesis 12:1
- Exodus 2:11-15
- Exodus 3:10
- Numbers 12:3
I will bless you, and you will be a blessing
God promised Abraham, 'I will bless you, I will make your name great, I will bless those who bless you', and the blessing spilled over onto Lot. Abraham knew how to tithe, giving a tenth to Melchizedek, king of righteousness and king of peace. Proverbs 10:22 is his favourite scripture: the blessing of the Lord makes rich and adds no sorrow, and he recommends Kenneth Copeland's book The Blessing.
Illustration: He says he does not miss an opportunity to bless men and women of God around him, because he knows the secret: when you bless them, God blesses you.
“The blessing of the Lord makes rich and adds no sorrow with it.”
- Genesis 12:2-4
- Genesis 13:5-6
- Hebrews 7:1-4
- Proverbs 10:22
Number one: God is ever ready to instruct and lead you
All Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for instruction and training in righteousness. He says the Greek root for 'profitable' means advantage, profit and increase: among a group of people, God wants to give you the advantage, and at times He will promote you above people with more education, because the blessing is on your life.
“It's God's desire for you to make profit, to increase and to give you the advantage.”
- 2 Timothy 3:16
Number two: God will give you His best effort
Nothing could give you a greater advantage than being the recipient of God's best effort. John prayed that we would prosper and be in health as our souls prosper, and the soul prospers when the mind is renewed and becomes blessing-oriented, receiving the Word not just as knowledge but by revelation.
“When you have that revelation in your heart and mind, you will see the blessing of the Lord.”
- 3 John 2
Number three: let God be your GPS
If you allow God to be your GPS, He will position you, protect you, give you His peace, promote you, make all things possible, give you power and become your prosperity system. As long as King Uzziah sought the Lord, God made him prosper. Step into the circle of blessing, and you can't help but receive blessings and be a blessing.
Illustration: He admits he finds a car's GPS a tad intimidating, with its short routes, long routes and avoidances that take you round and round; God's directions are better.
“It is great to step into the circle of blessing.”
- 2 Chronicles 26:5
Number four: God pardons the sins of those close to Him
God is a forgiving God: if you confess your sins, His blood will cleanse you, wash you and forgive you.
- 1 John 1:9
Number five: God shares His secrets with those who fear Him
The secret of the Lord is with those who fear Him; the Hebrew word means counsel or intimate conversation, so God speaks to your spirit and reveals to you what He hides from others. To fear Him means to reverence, honour and stand in awe of Him, so there is a seriousness about communion, offerings, worship and hearing the Word. Those who fear Him have the angel of the Lord encamped around them as a circle of protection.
“We can laugh and joke and have fun afterwards, but there's a seriousness in communion.”
- Psalm 25:14
- Psalm 34:7
Last: God will teach you to choose the best
When you have options in front of you, God's Spirit will teach you to choose His best, and whatever good thing you do comes back to you. Because God gives us His best, we should give Him ours: honour the Lord with your substance and the firstfruits of all your increase, including profit on anything you sell, such as a house or a car. Give Him the first and the best, and He will open the heavens and give you His best.
“When you give Him the first, and when you give Him the best, He will give you His best.”
- Ephesians 6:8
- Proverbs 3:9
Putting it into practice
- Don't resent seasons of separation; God may be preparing to bless you.
- Look for opportunities to bless men and women of God.
- Let God direct your journey and seek Him, as Uzziah did while he prospered.
- Treat communion, offerings, worship and the Word with reverence.
- Honour God with the firstfruits of all your increase, including profits on what you sell.
Closing
He ends by reminding the church that when you give God the first and the best, He gives you His best, says he trusts they enjoyed the message on the blessing of the Lord, and closes with 'Hallelujah'.
Declarations he led
- All is well.
- Lord, let the words pastor spoke on this young man be the same portion on my children too.
- The blessing of the Lord makes rich, adds no sorrow.
In his words
- “It's amazing how when God wants to insulate you, He first isolates you.”
- “From a great man of stature, he had to learn humility. And in the humility was brokenness. And from the brokenness came power.”
- “It takes humility to give God praise in the presence of other people.”
- “Education is at a lower level than wisdom.”
- “If you allow God to be your GPS, you will find that He will position you.”
