Sermon outline
Because the Lord is on your side and for you, step into the new year without fear, with a vision, a specific request and a plan, and expect heaven to break loose over your life.
Main text
- Psalm 118:6-13
Opening
He leads the church in thanksgiving now that Christmas is over and asks, 'What do you see?' for the year ahead. He shares the word the Lord gave him early on the Friday morning, 'all heaven breaks loose', and links the message to the Monday night service, where he told the church to be very positive and very expectant about 2008.
All heaven breaks loose in 2008
When he asked the Lord what the word meant, the Spirit reminded him of the saying 'all hell broke loose' and told him that this year the opposite is true: things you have waited and prayed for will gravitate towards you. The church has sown, prayed and grown in the Word for years, so the clouds are full of rain and an outpouring is coming in every area. Be pregnant with expectation and make space for increase, because God is a God of abundance.
Illustration: Clouds full of rain. He has never read anywhere from Genesis to Revelation where God said His cupboards were empty, only men asking where the water or the meat would come from before God provided.
“Things that you have done in the last seven years, you will do in one year.”
Whatever He says to you, do it
At the wedding in Cana Jesus said His time had not yet come, waiting for instruction from heaven, and Mary told the servants to do whatever He said. Whatever the Spirit of God tells you is an instruction from heaven. Results come in the doing: if you stay stationary you will never see a result, but a step of faith changes your finances, your health and your circumstances.
Illustration: Some are waiting on God for a second-hand car. Because of the level of the Word and the anointing, they can be promoted straight to a brand new one instead of climbing the ranks with an old jalopy.
“It's in the doing, you'll get the result.”
- John 2:1-11
The Lord is on my side
It does not matter what others say or think: the Lord is on your side. If a man as wealthy as Bill Gates promised to take care of you for life, you would not think about lack, and the Lord is far greater than him. Imagination is the blueprint of everything you will acquire, so let it run with great things. Then ask what you have done with the hundreds of messages you hear in a year, because there are people to meet, churches to plant and money to make.
Illustration: Meeting Bill Gates and being told 'anything you want, just give me a call': you would go home shouting, and the only problem would be choosing. A little girl wears her mother's shoes and a little boy drives a plate around imagining his father's car.
“Your imagination is a blueprint for everything you will ever acquire in life.”
- Psalm 118:6
- Psalm 50:10
- Haggai 2:8
There's money everywhere: a God idea, not just a good idea
The children of the world recognise potential everywhere and put a plan into action, while the children of God sit and wait. There is money in sand, stone, grass, baking, clothes and nails; if God has given you the ability to cut hair, cut hair, and work for someone with a plan to own the place. Do not copy what someone else is doing just because it seems good: follow what God personally tells you to do.
Illustration: Saul and his generals sat for days discussing Goliath. Young David arrived with lunch, asked what the reward was, picked up five stones and took Goliath down with the first one. He did not join the party sitting around.
“There's a big difference between a good idea and a God idea.”
- Luke 16:8
- 1 Samuel 17
I will not fear: what can man do to me?
He will not fear because he has just said the Lord is on his side. Go into the new year bold and fearless, a possibility thinker and a problem solver, without words like 'impossible'. Do not fear relatives, neighbours or church folk who mock you while God is raising you up.
“I cannot be afraid. I am a problem solver.”
- Psalm 118:6
The Lord is for me: I shall see my desire
God is for you, not against you, so sickness and pain have no place, and all things work together for your good: your business plans, your education and your church. Meditate on whatever is true, good and honest. Whatever you desire, a house, a car, healing, a long life or a degree, you shall see it, and it is better to trust in the Lord than in man or princes.
Illustration: A young man in the church helped in the conference centre all through his exams and was shocked to get a matric exemption. The Lord was on his side.
“I'm not planning to fail, I'm planning to succeed.”
- Psalm 118:7-9
- Romans 8:28
- Philippians 4:8
In the name of the Lord I will destroy them: take off the lid
All nations surrounded him like bees, but in the name of the Lord he destroyed them, and today the name of Jesus is our battle axe against sickness, poverty and every challenge. The devil and people have put a lid on you: limitation, intimidation and despair. Break it off. Do not let the fear of mistakes stop you stepping into a venture, because God will work even a mistake for your good and restore what is lost.
Illustration: LID: L for limitation, I for intimidation, D for despair.
“Even if you take a step of faith into a venture, if you lose money, God will give it back to you.”
- Psalm 118:10-12
- Romans 8:28
No plan, no money
If you do not make great plans and a budget for the year, God has no obligation to bring you the money. Have a picture of what you desire, a plan for it and a monetary value on it. Saying 'the Lord is on my side' is not enough: you have to do something.
Illustration: Two men pray. One says every day, 'Lord, I want money.' The other asks for 100,000 rand as start-up capital for a business. The second is answered because he was specific, he was accurate, and he had a plan.
“If you do not make great plans for 2008, God has got no obligation to bring you the money.”
You pushed me violently, but the Lord helped me
From 2000 to 2007 circumstances pushed hard, prayers seemed unanswered and ventures fell to the left and the right. Yet you are still standing because the Lord helped you, and He brought you to the threshold of 2008 so that you would now step into greatness. Expect to expand: you may start by asking a bank for a small loan, but that is not how you finish.
“The enemy tried to destroy you, circumstances tried to destroy you, but you are still around.”
- Psalm 118:13
Walk like a king: chin up, chest out
Believers are kings and priests, so stop cowering at the bank counter in religious false humility; dress smart and negotiate with life because you are on the winning side. A doctor with seven years of study can diagnose cancer, but you know how to work the name of Jesus, and where the doctor fails you carry on. We ascribe greatness to things that are not great and put down what is great: you are made in God's image and carry the Holy Ghost.
Illustration: A man diagnosed with cancer is prayed for in the name of Jesus by his pastor or cell leader, and the doctor calls it a miracle. A banker says a loan is against policy, you pray in the name of Jesus, and the policy changes.
“Negotiate with life because you are already on the winning side.”
- Revelation 1:6
- Genesis 1:26
Prophetic word: an anointing for increase
He prophesies progress, giant leaps of faith and running with the speed of the Spirit: what overtook you in the past you will now overtake, and money that was stuck has been released. In Christ there is one new man, born again and Spirit-filled. There is an anointing for prosperity as well as for healing, and for those who received the word their angels have gone to bring what is needed.
Illustration: In a few months, when you see the man who used to take a taxi driving a new car, perhaps better than yours, do not ask why: it is on its way to everyone who receives the word.
“Things that overtook you in the past, you will now overtake.”
- 2 Chronicles 20:20
- Isaiah 60:1
Putting it into practice
- Write down what you want God to do in the new year, make a plan and put a monetary value to it.
- Do whatever the Spirit of God tells you to do, and act on the God ideas He gives you.
- Refuse fear and the lid of limitation, intimidation and despair.
- Carry yourself with dignity as a king and priest, and use the name of Jesus against every challenge.
- Go home expectant and meditate all week on 'God is on my side'.
Closing
He tells the church to go home expectant and meditate on 'God is on my side', even in front of an unsaved husband. He calls those needing healing to the front, announces the New Year's Eve service at 8 o'clock with an awards evening and a live broadcast, offers his new book The Name of Jesus and You, and leads a woman to Christ through one of the pastors before closing with the grace.
Declarations he led
- I see it, Lord. I see it, Lord. I'm getting ready now. In the name of Jesus.
- The Lord is on my side.
- I'll destroy them in the name of the Lord.
- Make room for me.
In his words
- “This year, 2008, all heaven breaks loose for you.”
- “Your imagination is a blueprint for everything you will ever acquire in life.”
- “There's a big difference between a good idea and a God idea.”
- “No plan, no money.”
- “Negotiate with life because you are already on the winning side.”
