You Are to Lay Aside Every Weight (Part 2)!
Dr RJ Sing
“Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us”
We ended the last devotional by stating that we must run with purpose and not aimlessly. The important words that we used were, endurance, Persistence, & Purpose. The Key to purpose is perspective. The writer of Hebrews admonishes us to consider three things that will help us finish well;
1. Consider Them: Since a Great Cloud of witnesses has gone before us, we must get serious about finishing well. We must aim for & finish our races well. We are not to grow weary and give up. 2. Consider Ourselves: Now that we have been given an opportunity to run the race we must watch for pitfalls. We must lay aside every encumbrance that would present us from finishing well.
3. We are to consider Jesus: Jesus had to run His own Race. He endured hardships & all the challenges that were thrown at Him. How did He do this? He focused on His Father & fixed His eyes on the Rewards. We are to follow the example of Jesus. We are to run our race with Passion, Purpose, and Perspective.
