Principles for Giving No.5
Dr RJ Sing
“Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, "How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!”
Principle No.5: Own Your Possessions, Don’t Let Them Own You.
Throughout the Word, we see that it is God’s will to bless and prosper His people. In Christ’s teachings, He reveals the true perspective that we must have concerning the riches of the world, and the wealth He has given us. Jesus not only taught us to be unconcerned about acquiring worldly possessions and coveting the wealth of this world, He also warned us of the danger of trusting in riches.
Let us examine the above Scripture closely: (See Mark 10:17-27) The Commentary Scripture tells us that Jesus looked upon the young man, saw his intense desire and love for God, and he loved Him. However, He saw deep into his heart, and knew the young man was trusting in His riches.
This young man’s possessions had such a hold on Him, that he was unwilling to give them up to follow Jesus. He lost his opportunity, and went away grieved because he could not give up his possessions.
