Battle Seed: How to Give Your Money a Specific Assignment

Originally preached as “Giving Your Seed a Specific Assignment”
Sermon outline
It is God's will for you to have a full supply, and money is seed: when you sow it in faith and love and point it at a specific need, it carries an instruction to produce after its kind.
Main text
- Job 22:21-28
Opening
He explains that he has been trying to finish this teaching for two or three weeks and hopes to wrap it up today, and he tells those who missed earlier weeks to get the previous CD and catch up. He begins by establishing that it is God's will to prosper you, and defines 'rich' not as everyone becoming a millionaire but as a full supply: rent, bond and car paid, food in the house, money in the bank, and surplus to sow into the kingdom and into other people.
Acquaint yourself with Him: make the Word your final authority
Knowing God brings peace and good into your life. The Word, not what grandma or uncle said, must be the final authority, and then no devil, circumstance or pressure can move you from your mark. Every believer is a 'word practitioner' who speaks light into darkness and goodness into bad situations.
Illustration: Doctors are medical practitioners and lawyers are practitioners of law; a born-again Christian is a word practitioner.
“When you make the word of God final authority in your life, the devil can't move you from your mark.”
- Job 22:21-22
Return to the Almighty and you will be built up
Believers are not ordinary: they carry God's Spirit and treasure inside. They are not a group waiting on the Lord to act, because God is waiting on them to speak. Signs follow every believer, not only the pastor, and you are not a sinner saved by grace but a son or daughter of God, already blessed with all spiritual blessings.
Illustration: Many years ago he anointed his sick dog with oil and prayed, and it became well.
“What do you mean waiting on the Lord? Brother, God's waiting on us.”
- Job 22:23
- 2 Corinthians 4:7
- Mark 16:17
- 1 Corinthians 2:4
- Hebrews 1:2
- Ephesians 1:3
The Almighty shall be your gold: declare a thing and it will be established
Job 22 does not say God has gold; it says God is your gold, so His children cannot lack. When you pray, He hears you, whatever your education. Like Ezekiel prophesying to dry bones, prophesy to your bank account, and remember you are filled with the Spirit all the time, even at the ATM. When people cast you down, you say there is lifting up.
Illustration: A beach ball held under water in the deep end pops right back up; you are a 'bubble of blessing'. He also pictures a man in sandals being ignored in a store until he says he is a grandson of the Oppenheimers, and asks, do you know who you are?
“Say, ATM, I speak to you in the name of Jesus. You will produce for me.”
- Job 22:24-29
- Ezekiel 37:3-4
- Ephesians 5:18
- Acts 19:15
It is God's will for you to be rich
God promised to make Abraham a great nation and a blessing, and Abraham was very rich in cattle, silver and gold. Believers are Abraham's seed, so they share his inheritance. The cattle on a thousand hills, the silver and the gold all belong to 'Papa God', and He wants His children to prosper and be in health.
Illustration: A person drives a smoking old car with 'Jesus loves me' on the windscreen while his neighbour in a new Mercedes feels sorry for him; a poverty-stricken church is a poor representation of a great God.
“God will not put meaningless details in the Bible to fill up space.”
- Genesis 12:2-3
- Genesis 13:2
- Galatians 3:29
- Psalm 50:10-12
- Haggai 2:8
- 3 John 2
Money is seed with an invisible instruction
Every seed carries an invisible instruction to produce after its kind, and money sown in the kingdom is seed, not a loss. Money is a tool and must never be your god. God sowed one Son, Jesus, whose assignment was to produce sons, and David stayed a plague by offering a sacrifice that cost him something. Stay the plague of poverty by sowing.
Illustration: A tomato seed in the ground cries out to be burst open so it can produce tomato plants.
“Every seed has within it an invisible instruction.”
- Genesis 1:11-12
- John 4:34
- 2 Samuel 24:24-25
In a crisis, sow a battle seed
A battle seed is any seed sown when you face a crisis, as the widow of Zarephath did when the prophet came. Christians lack because their altars are empty, while people of other faiths never go to their temples empty-handed. Tithes, offerings and seed belong in the local storehouse, the church where you are fed every Sunday.
Illustration: When he wants large amounts of money he no longer prays for it; he goes to another ministry and sows big, and it comes back big.
“Empty altar, empty pockets.”
- 1 Kings 17:8-16
- Malachi 3:10
Give your seed a specific instruction and point it like an arrow
When you sow, name exactly what you want God to do, even writing it on the back of your envelope. Sow generously and consistently, wrap your faith around the seed, and honour the Lord with your firstfruits from faith, not fear. A battle seed must be sown in love; bitterness and stinginess will not work.
Illustration: A Scud missile leaves with a set destination; your seed must travel straight to the mountain, bill, bond or sickness you name.
“Money is not just for giving. Money is a battle arrow.”
- Proverbs 3:9
Putting it into practice
- Make the Word the final authority over what family and tradition say.
- Prophesy over your bank account, wardrobe and car instead of speaking lack.
- Name your crisis at home, then sow a battle seed with a clear instruction.
- Bring your tithes, offerings and seed to your local church.
- Sow generously, consistently and in love, from faith rather than fear.
Closing
He casts out the spirit of fear and prophesies financial miracles over those who received the word, breaking poverty mentalities and stinginess. He declares that money will not just catch up with them but overtake them, and that Durban, not Johannesburg, will become the country's economic hub, then has the church give one another a high five.
