Six Reasons for Jesus’ Coming

From the desk of Pastor Sing

Greetings to all my Partners and to all the Precious People, whom God loves so dearly. I take this opportunity to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New year. On behalf of my family, staff and leadership of Faith Centre International.

This month being such a Special time for all Christians who celebrate the Birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. I would like to share with you along the lines of “Six Reasons for Jesus’ Coming.”

Six Reasons for Jesus’ Coming

So I want to let six of the witnesses speak and testify to why the Son of God came into the world. The witnesses are Matthew, Luke, John, Paul and the writer of the Hebrews. The answers they give are six reasons for Jesus’ coming:

  1. To ransom many,
  2. To call sinners,
  3. To give sight to the morally blind,
  4. To divide households,
  5. To save from divine condemnation, and
  6. To give eternal life.

Are these imaginary acts dreamed up because of our need? Or do they fit our needs because they are true? You must decide. Let’s take these reasons for Christ’s coming one at a time and just let the Bible witness to each one in its own words.

1. He came as a ransom for many.

“The Son of Man came not to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Mark 10:45

The reason we need a ransom to be paid for us is that we have sold ourselves into sin and have been alienated from a Holy God. When Jesus gave His life as a ransom, our slave masters, sin and death and the devil, had to give up their claim on us. And the result was that we could be adopted into the family of God.

Paul put it like this in Galatians 4:4-5, “But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.” In other words the redemption or the ransom frees us to be a part of God’s family. We had run away and sold ourselves into slavery. But God pays a ransom and redeems us out of slavery into the Father’s house.

To do that, God’s Son had to become a human being so that He could suffer and die in our place to pay the ransom. That is the meaning of Christmas. Hebrews 2:14 puts it like this, “Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil.” In other words, the reason Christ took on human flesh was so that He could die and in dying pay a ransom and free us from the power of death.

Is this an elaborate creation of desperate human imagination, or is it God’s exact provision for our need?

2. He came to call sinners to repentance.

“And Jesus answered them, Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick; I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”

Luke 5:31-32

Jesus came to call sinners to repentance. First, there needed to be a ransom to be paid for sinners. Then, there could be a successful call to sinners. The call is based on the ransom. And Jesus says, He came for both of these things.

He does not leave the ransoming or the calling to others. He ransoms and He calls. Even today He is calling through the Bible and through the preaching of the Bible. He is calling this morning.

That is the meaning of Christmas. He came to call sinners.

3. He came to give sight to the morally blind.

John 9:39, “Jesus said, ‘For judgment I came into this world, that those who do not see may see.” And John 12:46, “I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness.”

Jesus did not merely come to ransom and to call, He also came to open people’s eyes so that they can see the light and walk in it. Our problem is not just slavery needing a ransom, and lostness needing a call, our problem is also moral blindness, needing the gift of sight. We are simply blind to some spiritual realities that are utterly crucial to see and embrace.

This is why Christ came, that those who do not see may see. This is the meaning of Christmas.

4. Christ came to divide households.

“"Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter- in- law against her mother- in- law; and a person's enemies will be those of his own household.”

Matthew 10:34-36

The point of this word is not that God loves division and strife. The point is that strife and division caused by true allegiance to Jesus are better than no strife and division with no allegiance to Jesus. The point is that when a person is ransomed and called and given sight, something really radical happens to them.

They see everything differently with that new sight and they have a new master because of the sovereign call, and they are wonderfully free from fear and guilt because of that sufficient ransom. And so they think differently and feel things differently and act differently. And for some in the family, that can be very threatening and so tension develops. For this Jesus came into the world. That too is the meaning of Christmas.

5. He came to save from divine condemnation.

“For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already.”

John 3:17-18

God sent His Son to save us from His own just condemnation and wrath. The need for Salvation implies that there is a danger we need to be saved from. That danger is sin and death and the devil. But the most serious danger of all is the danger of condemnation of God. If God is for us, then sin and death and the devil will fail to destroy us. But if God is against us, then nothing can save us.

Christmas, the coming of Jesus, is God’s way of being for us – if we will believe. “He who believes is not condemned, but he who does not believe is condemned already.”

6. He came to give us eternal life.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

John 3:16

Christmas means that God sent His Son so that we could believe and have eternal life.

Believe in Jesus and Receive the Gift of Life.

I want to close by urging you to believe in Jesus and to receive this gift of life and to set out in a life that magnifies God and His rich grace as the giver of every good and perfect thing.

May God continue to richly bless you and your family. I pray for you daily and take pleasure in seeing you enjoy God’s blessings.

We Love you very much, Dr. Roshan and Pastor Zubeda Sing.

The Holy Spirit Baptism (Part 2)

Faith Foundations

Aim: The purpose of this lesson is to further equip the believer in Christ not only by teaching them concerning the truth of the baptism of the Holy Spirit as an experience subsequent to and distinct from Salvation, but by leading them into a personal experience of the endowment with power from on high.

Golden Text Illuminated: “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” Acts 1:8 KJV.

I. What Is the Initial Evidence of Receiving the Baptism of the Spirit?

The only way to arrive at a conclusive answer to this question is by examining every case where individuals or groups of people received this experience in the New Testament.

  1. A.On the day of Pentecost, the waiting disciples were all “filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other blankas the Spirit gave them utterance” (Acts 2:4).
  2. B.In Samaria, when Peter and John laid hands on those who were converted under Phillip’s ministry, we are told that “Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Ghost was given . . .” (Acts 8:18). Evidently, there was a visible sign that Simon saw, which is alluded to in Verse 21 when Peter informed Simon that he did not have “part nor lot in this matter blank.
  3. C.The Gentiles experienced an outpouring of the Spirit after Peter’s sermon at the house of Cornelius and everyone present knew it “for they heard them speak with blankand magnify God” (Acts 10:44-46).
  4. D.The disciples that Paul encountered in Ephesus “spake with blank, and prophesied (Acts 19:1-6) when Paul laid hands on them.

In every case where we have people experiencing the Baptism of the Spirit, we find a common denominator. There was an immediate evidence of blank.

Ernest Gentile puts it this way, “The Bible does not say that you MUST speak in tongues to have the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, but it does teach us by illustration that if you have the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, you will be given the immediate evidence of speaking in tongues.”

II. Who May Receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit?

blankin Christ of all ages are candidates for the Baptism of the Holy Spirit (Mark 16:17). “For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call” (Acts 2:38, 39).

For those who believe on Christ, the actual reception of the Spirit Baptism is sometimes conditioned on the believer’s knowing that there is such an experience available to them and that it is for now. (Acts 19:1-6).

III. How Does One Receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit?

We do not receive the gifts of God by the works of the flesh. (Galatians 3:2). All the gifts of God are of Grace and are to be received by faith. (Ephesians 2:8-10). There are, however, several things that will help us to release our faith in this area:

  1. A.Fulfil the prerequisites of repentance and faithblankasking for this experience.
  2. B.blank, the baptiser with the Holy Spirit, to give you this gift (Matthew 3:11; Luke 11:9-13).

“I indeed baptise you with water unto repentance: but He that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: He shall baptise you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire.”

(Matthew 3:11)
  1. C.Yield your “unruly member” as an instrument of righteousness, blank that God will give you something other than what you desire.
  2. D.Exercise your faith by blankin an unknown language unto the Lord.
  3. E.Once you have received the gift of the Holy Ghost, use your tongue blankas it is a key to spiritual vitality (Jude 20; I Corinthians 14:15, 18).

IV. What Are Some Biblical Reasons for Speaking in Other Tongues?

  1. A.It is one of the signs of the believer (Mark 16:17).
  2. B.It is a way for our spirit to be built up in faith (1 Corinthians 14:4).
  3. C.It is a way to magnify the Lord (Acts 10:46).
  4. D.It is part of our spiritual armor (Ephesians 6:18).
  5. E.It is spoken of as a refreshing (Isaiah 28:11-12 with 1 Corinthians 14:21).

Conclusion: God wants every believer who is born of the Spirit to be baptised in the Spirit as well. The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is absolutely necessary in every Christian for the service that Christ demands and expects of us. Jesus and the Apostles all waited to enter into their ministry until this “endowment with power” was experienced. Let us never see such a wonderful provision of God as an option, but let us seek and find (Matthew 7:7) and hunger and thirst (Matthew 5:6).

Christian Discipleship

Faith Foundations

Aim: The purpose of this lesson is to help us to see that every Christian is also to be a disciple of Jesus, and that the Lord is not just interested in the Salvation of the spirit of man, but also in the sanctification of the mind, will and emotions of man. This will take place as believers come under the authority of Christ in their lives.

Golden Text Illuminated: “ . . .Whosoever will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for My sake and the Gospel’s, the same shall save it.” Mark 8:34-35 KJV.

I. What Is Jesus’ Command Concerning Discipleship?

When Jesus commissioned His disciples after the resurrection, He gave them a fourfold charge:

  1. A.blank. “Go ye into all world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” (Mark 16:15).
  2. B.blank. “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28:19-20).
  3. C.blank.“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto Me . . .” (Acts 1:8).
  4. D.blank. “Jesus saith unto him, Feed My sheep.” (John 21:17).

These four things must be experienced in this order in the life of every believer.

II. What Is a Disciple?

  1. A.The word “disciple” is used over 250 times in the New Testament and simply means:
  1. 1.A blankorblank one.
  2. 2.A learner or pupil.
  3. 3.One who accepts or receives instruction or doctrines of another.
  4. 4.A disciplined one.
  1. B.The word “discipline”, which is closely related, means:
  1. 1.Training that develops self-control or character.
  2. 2.Submission to control.
  3. 3.blank.
  4. 4.Treatment that corrects or adjusts.

III. What Does It Mean to Be a Disciple of Jesus Christ?

  1. A.It means that we are willing to treat Him as our blankand Master (Matthew 10:24).
  2. B.It means that we are willing to be blankand instructed in His ways (Matthew 5:1-2).
  3. C.It means that we must be willing to blankto His commands (Luke 6:46; Matthew 7:21).
  4. D.It means that we must be willing to be blank and adjusted by the Word of the Lord (Proverbs 3:11-12; Hebrews 12:5-13).

I. What Does It Cost to Be a Disciple of Jesus Christ?

We are clearly instructed in the Word of God that before we begin building, we should count the cost (Luke 14:25-33). Salvation is a free gift from God. We can do nothing to earn it or deserve it (Ephesians 2:8-9), but if we are to respond to that call of discipleship, it will cost us everything that we have (Luke 5:11).

“He that loveth father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after Me, is not worthy of Me”

(Matthew 10:37-38).

This means that everything in our life has to take second place to our relationship to the Lord, including:

  1. A.Our blank (Matthew 8:19, 20; Luke 9:58).
  2. B.Our blankand relatives (Matthew 10:37-38).
  3. C.Our blank (Matthew 4:18-22).
  4. D.Our blank (Matthew 19:16-22).

This does not mean that the Lord will demand these things of us, but it does mean that we would blankto offer them up if He did (Matthew 16:24-26).

II. What Is the Reward of the Life of Discipleship?

The only reason we can become such a disciple to the Lord Jesus Christ is because He only has our best interest in mind. The Lord never asks us to give something up unless He plans to give us something blankin return.

“And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for My sake, and the gospel’s, but he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.”

Mark 10:29-30.

“I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”

John 10:10.

III. What Is the Goal of the Life of Discipleship?

There are several goals that will be achieved for those who become disciples:

  1. A.To be a blank, mature Christian able to weather the storms of life (Ephesians 4:13-14).
  2. B.To be a true reflection of blankto the world (Ephesians 4:13; Acts 11:26).
  3. C.To be the kind of Christian that others can blankand pattern their lives after (1 Corinthians 11:1; Titus 2:7-8).
  4. D.To be the kind of Christian that God can use to blankto others (John 15:8, 12-17).
  5. E.To receive ultimately from the Lord the commendation of a blankservant (Matthew 25:21).

“Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if you do these things, ye shall never fall: for so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting Kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.”

2 Peter 1:10-11.

Conclusion: The life of discipleship is really not an option for those who want to reach the above goals in their life. Unfortunately, many believers live a life far below God’s standard for them and, hence, never fully experience the great rewards and blessings that come from a life of total surrender to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

As believers, we must be willing to accept the challenge of discipleship if we are to prove “. . . what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God” (Romans 12:1-2).

Fellowship

Faith Foundations

Aim: The purpose of this lesson is to demonstrate to the believer that God never intended for His people to live in isolation or separated from each other, but that in His purpose He intended that they be rightly related to one another in unity, flowing together as a harmonious whole, to carry on a corporate ministry to the world.

Golden Text Illuminated: “ I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, with all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; endeavouring to keep the unity of the spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body, and one spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.” Ephesians 4:1-6 KJV.

I. What Does the Word “Fellowship” Mean?

  1. A.The actual meaning of the Greek word, translated “fellowship” in the New Testament, is “ blank”.It means to be a sharer, or a partner in something.
  2. B.In relation to the people of God it describes the partnership, blankor relationship that believers enter into by virtue of their common experience of salvation and mutual participation in the Body of Christ.

II. What Are the Two Aspects of Christian Fellowship?

Fellowship for the believer is seen in blank: vertically and horizontally.

“That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.”

I John 1:3.
  1. A.Vertical fellowship is fellowship blank. Fellowship with God is the foundation for all other Christian fellowship. Fellowship with God is established when we lay down our will and accept God’s authority in our lives on the basis of the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 1:9; Ephesians 2:12-18).

This fellowship is cultivated in prayer, praise and worship in Spirit and in truth (John 4:23-24).

  1. B.Horizontal fellowship is fellowship blank.Once fellowship with God has been established, we can have proper fellowship with one another. When God is truly our first love and our desire is to please Him, then the way is open for the Lord to break down all barriers that separate us from one another.

This fellowship is cultivated in our inter-relating one with another in the Body of Christ (Acts 2:42).

III. What Are Some of the Ways Christian Fellowship Is Expressed?

Christian fellowship is expressed in spiritual ways, as well as in practical ways.

  1. A.Some spiritual avenues of fellowship include:
  1. 1.Praying one for another (James 5:16).
  2. 2.Exhorting one another (Hebrews 3:13; 10:25)
  3. 3.Edifying one another (Romans 14:19)
  4. 4.Bearing one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:2, 5)
  5. 5.Singing, praising and worshipping together (Colossians 3:16)
  6. 6.Comforting one another (1 Thessalonians 4:18)
  7. 7.Forgiving one another (Ephesians 4:32)
  1. B.Some practical avenues of fellowship include:
  1. 1.Receiving one another into friendship (Romans 15:7)
  2. 2.Serving one another in practical ways (Galatians 5:13)
  3. 3.House-to-house fellowship (Acts 2:46)
  4. 4.Showing hospitality to those in need (Romans 12:13)
  5. 5.Being considerate one of another (Ephesians 4:32)
  6. 6.Helping the needy financially (1 John 3:16-18)
  7. 7.Getting to know and appreciate each other.

“A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this blankthat ye are my disciples, if ye have loved one to another.”

John 13:34-35.
