Frugality in Finances
Dr RJ Sing
“He who tills his land shall be satisfied with bread, but he who follows worthless pursuits is lacking in sense and is without understanding.”
You must think before you buy things, especially expensive things. Don’t allow your excitement or desire to block your judgment. Think long-term, plan ahead and do not allow the present situations to control your life. Also, be patient. Don’t try to become rich quickly. Remember your tithes and offerings because when you tithe ten percent of your income, you are in essence, expressing your gratitude to God and at the same time recognizing Him as the giver, the provider, and the owner of all you have.
It is a form of prayer to God asking Him to continue blessing your possessions. Tithing was instituted in the Old Testament and was reaffirmed by Jesus in Matthew 23:23 and by Paul in 1 Corinthians 16:2.
There are three types of tithes we find in the Old Testament: Firstly – worship tithe, which is used for religious activities only (Leviticus 27:3), secondly – festival tithe, this is used during the feast of the Jews (Leviticus 27:22-27) and thirdly – charity tithe, given every third year, used for the Levite, the stranger, the orphan and the widow (Deuteronomy 14:28-29).
