You Are to Be Persistent
Dr RJ Sing
“5Yet because this widow continues to bother me, I will defend and protect and avenge her, lest she give me intolerable annoyance and wear me out by her continual coming or at the last she come and rail on me or assault me or strangle me.”
We are to learn from the Biblical account of the persistent widow. Let us now examine the entire account. “Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart, 2 saying: “There was in a certain city a judge who did not fear God nor regard man. 3 Now there was a widow in that city; and she came to him, saying, ‘Get justice for me from my adversary.’ 4 And he would not for a while; but afterward he said within himself, ‘Though I do not fear God nor regard man.” (See vs 5 above)
This woman continued, to come to the unjust judge saying, “Protect and defend me and give me Justice against my adversary”. At first the judge was not moved, but because of her persistence he eventually granted her request. Her persistence was effective in persuading Him.
It seems as though that we are to embrace these two virtues in order to be strong in Faith. Let us now look at the meaning of the word persistence so that you can embrace it; To continue doing something firmly or obstinately in spite of opposition or failure. God expects you to be strong in Faith and He expects you to be persistent.
