You Hold Every Key: The Authority to Bind and Loose

Dr RJ Sing, 1 hr 5 min

Originally preached as “Binding and Loosing”

Sermon outline

Jesus has given every believer all the keys of the kingdom, the power to bind and to loose, and the kingdom is already within you, so speak the Word instead of waiting for God to act.

Main text

  • Matthew 16:13-19
  • Matthew 16:28

Opening

He opens with praise and thanks the church for being so alive, saying it is the best crowd in a long time. He mentions that he will finish his Sunday teaching on the power of wisdom next Sunday and that his third book is about to go to the publishers, then announces his subject: the authority to bind and loose, the keys of the kingdom.

  1. Number one: Jesus builds His church on revelation knowledge

Peter knew Jesus was the Christ because the Father revealed it, not flesh and blood. Revelation knowledge, or rhema, is a word out of the Word: while he preaches on one thing, God can speak to your situation and tell you it is sorted out. Quoting scripture from the head carries no power; the Word must be in your heart and spirit.

Illustration: On National Geographic he watched wolves regurgitate food for their young. Some Christians do the same with scripture: they bring it up from their minds with no impartation and no power.

“Revelation knowledge is a word out of the word.”

    • Matthew 16:13-18
    • Mark 11:23
    • Matthew 4:4
  2. The keys of the kingdom: all the keys

Jesus did not give partial authority but a whole bunch of keys, every door in the kingdom. The keys are the power to bind and the power to loose: whatever you declare unlawful on earth is unlawful in heaven, and whatever you declare lawful on earth is lawful in heaven. If you are not getting results, you are not using the keys.

Illustration: Keys to a building: one key only gets you into the lobby, but the whole bunch opens the front door, the side door, the back door, the safe and even the fridge. If someone throws you his car keys and you leave them in your pocket, that is your problem.

“He didn't give you partial authority. He gave you the whole thing.”

    • Matthew 16:19
  3. Bind what heaven forbids and loose what heaven allows

Sickness, sin and weakness are not allowed in heaven, so you have authority to bind them here. You loose financial blessing, favour, healing, health, long life, joy and wisdom. Seek the kingdom and money will follow you, because money is a servant and a tool.

“Whatever is unlawful in heaven, I have the power to bind it here.”

    • Matthew 6:33
  4. The kingdom of God is within you

When Jesus said some standing there would not taste death until they saw Him coming in His kingdom, He was not speaking of His second coming. He rose as the firstborn among many brethren, took the keys, and the kingdom was established in everyone born again, because it comes not with observation but is within you. So we no longer pray 'thy kingdom come' as the disciples did under the law: it has come, and every word a new creation speaks carries God's power.

Illustration: A woman who had half her womb removed was prayed for, conceived and carried to full term, then brought the child to the gynaecologist who had doubted her.

“Every word spoken from a new creation man, every word is a receptacle of God's anointing and power.”

    • Matthew 16:28
    • Romans 8:29
    • Luke 17:20-21
    • Mark 11:12-14
    • Mark 11:20-24
    • 1 John 4:4
    • Revelation 1:6
    • Matthew 6:9-10
  5. Heirs according to the promise

If you are Christ's, you are Abraham's seed and heirs of the promise to bless, multiply and possess the gate of your enemies. You are Satan's master, so there is no place for fear of witchcraft or demons, and no glory in poverty, self-pity or a bargain-hunting mentality. Jesus spoke and a coin appeared in a fish's mouth; as ambassadors we walk tall and represent God well.

Illustration: Jesus did not need a rod and a worm to catch fish; the One who multiplied bread and fish simply spoke and the fish came.

“God's word is wired for success.”

    • Galatians 3:29
    • Genesis 22:17
    • 2 Timothy 1:7
    • 2 Corinthians 8:9
    • 2 Corinthians 5:21
    • Matthew 17:27
    • John 21:9
    • 2 Corinthians 5:20
    • Colossians 1:17-18
  6. Your inheritance: the blessing

Under the law the blessings of Deuteronomy 28 were conditional, but the new creation lives under the law of the Spirit, so the blessing is his inheritance. You are blessed in the city and the field, coming in and going out, and enemies that rise against you flee seven ways. Christ is the head of the church and endorses what His body does.

Illustration: He reads the blessings like a will being read to an heir.

    “I'm a bundle of blessing.”

    • Deuteronomy 28:2-9
  7. Why not everyone walks in it: speak the Word

The blessing is available, but many do not walk in it because they do not speak the Word from their mouths. The word of faith is near you, in your mouth and in your heart, and faith comes by hearing. The sword of the Spirit is the Word spoken by your spirit under the anointing of the Holy Spirit, and life and death are in the power of the tongue: you have today what you spoke yesterday.

Illustration: After a budget change reduced transfer costs he missed out on about 30,000 rand. Alone at home he refused to lose the money and spoke that it must come, and that Sunday someone gave him 30,000 rand.

“You have today what you have been speaking yesterday.”

    • Ephesians 6:17
    • Proverbs 18:21
    • Malachi 3:10

Putting it into practice

  • Stop asking God to bind and loose for you; use the keys He has given you.
  • Bind sickness, fear and lack, and loose favour, healing and provision over your life.
  • Speak to your body, your business and your finances with the Word.
  • Refuse a poverty mindset and represent God as an ambassador.
  • Be a faithful, generous giver.

Closing

He calls forward the radical sowers, the big givers, to receive financial miracles, asks for catchers and lays hands on them to transfer an anointing for prosperity, favour and healing. The recording ends during this time of ministry.

Declarations he led

  • Glory to God. I love Jesus. Jesus is wonderful. We praise you, Lord God, tonight.
  • I'm catching tonight. Big time.
  • It's in my hands now. It's in my feet now. It's on the inside of me.
  • The quickening power of God is inside of me. It's in my mind. It's in my tongue. It's in my mouth. It's in my hands. I will have whatsoever I say.
  • I have it now. I operate in it now. I taste it. I smell it. I talk it. I walk it. It's in me now.
  • I'm loaded. I'm wealthy. I'm prosperous. I cannot be poor. I refuse to be poor. I cannot be poor. I cannot be sick.
  • The word of God is quick and powerful.

In his words

  • “If you're not getting results in your life, it means that you're not using the keys.”
  • “Wherever you go, you take heaven with you.”
  • “You are Satan's master and Lord.”
  • “God's word cannot fail. It's not designed to fail.”
  • “You hold your future in your hands.”
