Your Blood-Bought Right: 7 Blessings Christ Paid For

Dr RJ Sing, 25 December 2018, 30 min

This is the whole service. The video opens where he begins, at 37:38.

Originally preached as “Christmas Day 2018”

Sermon outline

The Saviour born at Christmas paid with His blood for the blessings of God, so His sons and daughters can receive righteousness, peace, guidance, healing, His presence, prosperity and victory, because God is for us.

Main text

  • Luke 1:67-80
  • John 14:6
  • John 14:23

Opening

He says that for their church Christmas Day is always shared around the communion table, because the child who was given grew up to be the Saviour whose body was broken and blood was shed. Communion is proclamation, remembrance, anticipation, recognition, participation, fellowship and an acknowledgement that we are separated from the Babylonian system into the kingdom of God, where He has made us kings and priests. After serving the bread and the cup he welcomes the visitors and announces his subject: the blessings of the Lord.

  1. He has visited and redeemed His people

Zacharias prophesied that God had raised up a horn of salvation so that, delivered from our enemies, we might serve Him without fear, and that the dayspring from on high would give light to those in darkness. Jesus is the way, not one of many ways, and the Father loves those who keep His word and makes His home with them, so you are never alone. The blessings of God have been provided by the redemptive work of Christ, and the greatest human need is to be connected with the Creator.

Illustration: Tribes in the remotest parts of the world believe in a spirit in the mountains, the trees or the sky: they know there is something bigger out there but do not know it is Christ Jesus.

“Curse means you are empowered to fail. But the blessing means you are empowered to prosper.”

    • Luke 1:67-80
    • John 14:6
    • John 14:23
    • Hebrews 13:5
    • 2 Corinthians 6:18
    • Acts 4:12
  2. The first blessing: righteousness

There is a huge difference between right living and righteousness. Righteousness is a nature imparted to us when we accept Christ: the Lord our righteousness, Jehovah Tsidkenu. Our sins have been taken to the cross, and we are restored to God with dignity, able to stand in His presence without condemnation and with confidence against the devil.

“Righteousness is a nature imparted to humanity when they accept Christ Jesus.”

    • Jeremiah 23:6
  3. The second blessing: peace

The Lord is our peace, Jehovah Shalom. God has forgiven us, but we must learn to forgive ourselves so that we are free in our minds and spirits. Jesus made peace through the blood of His cross, endured our punishment and absolved us of all guilt.

“My account has been absolved. So is yours.”

    • Colossians 1:20
  4. The third blessing: guidance

Life is full of decisions. While others consult astrologers and mediums about the future, Christians go to the Word, and the Holy Spirit inside leads and guides them away from deception, delusion, failure and betrayal. The Lord is our shepherd, and His sheep know His voice and will not follow a stranger.

“The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.”

    • Psalm 23:1
    • John 10:5
    • John 10:27
  5. The fourth blessing: healing

The Lord is our healer, Jehovah Rapha. Sickness and its ravages are not God's doing but Satan's, because the thief comes to steal, kill and destroy, while Jesus came to give abundant life. Christ bore our diseases in His death so that we can live physically and spiritually well.

“When all else fails you, God is your healer.”

    • John 10:10
    • Exodus 15:26
    • Isaiah 53:4
  6. The fifth blessing: God's presence

We don't have to usher in God's presence with a hundred finicky things; we can simply say 'Lord, we welcome You', because He has promised never to leave us. Our friendship with God has been resumed, the line of communication is open, and Christ died to bring us back into God's household as a royal priesthood.

“Our friendship with God has been resumed.”

    • Matthew 28:20
    • Proverbs 18:24
    • 1 Peter 2:9
  7. The sixth blessing: prosperity

It is your blood-bought right as a child of God to believe Him for prosperity, because He is a prosperous God who adds to your life rather than subtracting from it. He is Jehovah Jireh, your provider, who supplies all your needs according to His riches in glory; He is not a stingy God, but He is looking for a receiver.

“God is not a stingy God. God is a liberal God.”

    • Proverbs 6:31
    • Genesis 22:8
    • Philippians 4:19
    • 2 Corinthians 8:9
  8. The seventh blessing: victory

Something inside every person yearns for victory, and God has given it: no more defeat, intimidation or discouragement. The Lord is our banner, Jehovah Nissi, going before us wherever we travel. Jesus spoiled principalities and powers and translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son.

“There is no more defeat, no more intimidation, no more discouragement.”

    • Exodus 17:15
    • Colossians 2:15
    • Colossians 1:13

Putting it into practice

  • Take communion as a time to proclaim and remember what the Lord has done.
  • Forgive yourself as God has forgiven you.
  • Seek guidance from the Word and the Holy Spirit, not from astrologers or mediums.
  • Train yourself to be a receiver of God's grace and provision.
  • Live, travel and function in the name of the Lord, your banner.

Closing

He concludes with Romans 8:31 and Hebrews 13:8: on this Christmas Day 2018 we can know without a doubt that God is for us, and that His love towards your family is goodwill and abundance. He has the church stand and wish one another a Merry Christmas, stops those already leaving, and calls Pastor Adrian to pronounce the blessing.

Declarations he led

  • The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.

In his words

  • “The whole world thinks Christmas and celebrates Christmas for other reasons. But we celebrate it because of Christ.”
  • “There's a vacuum inside because the spirit inside of humanity yearns for its creator.”
  • “There is a huge difference between right living and righteousness.”
  • “He does not divide. He doesn't minus or subtract from your life. He adds to your life.”
  • “God wants to give to you, but he's looking for the receiver.”
