Head, Not Tail: 10 Reasons Every Christian Can Be a Millionaire

Dr RJ Sing, 9 January 2022, 1 hr 16 min

This is the whole service. The video opens where he begins, at 33:52.

Originally preached as “Why You Can Be a Millionaire”

Sermon outline

God wants His children to be the head and not the tail, so stop thinking poor, become a tither and giver, learn the principles of wealth creation and confess that you are a millionaire, using your wealth to secure the truth and build His house.

Main text

  • Matthew 5:2-12
  • Deuteronomy 28:13
  • Psalm 35:27

Opening

He tells the church they are moving into a new season in which he will be frank and direct, because his first job is to feed the sheep, and he asks them to receive the Word even where they don't fully agree. He prays for understanding and revelation and binds every hindering spirit. Before the message itself he gives a long introduction on the important people in their lives and on last week's teaching about the gift of giving.

  1. The important people in your life

Not everyone is important to your progress, and believers must discern instead of wasting years on people who hold them back. The important people are: anyone God has assigned to intercede for you; anyone willing to battle for you in your absence; anyone in your scriptural chain of authority; anyone willing to correct you honestly in love; anyone you can trust with your weakness, pain and finances; someone who trusts you; and anyone who persuades you to trust God. Trust is earned, not simply given.

Illustration: In relationships you keep testing the tonnage on the bridge before you trust it with more weight.

“I don't think I want people just to have my back. I want them to have my future.”

    • Matthew 10:11
    • Hosea 4:6
    • John 16:12
  2. Never stop learning

Some believers are broke because they made decisions without wisdom or counsel and then blamed God. Unbelievers often have more money, not because God loves them more, but because they keep the principles. Listen to people who have built wealth, saved or not, and treat books, education and resources as an investment in your mind.

Illustration: He told his family he would rather spend on books and resources than on a flashy suit.

“The greatest mistake you'll ever make is you stop being a learner.”

    • Proverbs 4:7
  3. The gift of giving and the spirit of mammon

In the early church believers sold land and laid the money at the apostles' feet, and Barnabas was called a son of encouragement. Giving is one of the seven motivational gifts, and pastors must help givers grow. God is not against good clothes, cars and holidays, but don't forget His house; he is trusting God to raise a hundred millionaires because the vision ahead needs money. Jesus spoke about money in about 30 per cent of His parables, and those who don't tithe and give are in the grip of the spirit of mammon and need deliverance.

“Givers are never offended when they hear about giving.”

    • Acts 4:32-37
    • Romans 12:6-8
    • 3 John 1:2
    • Malachi 3:10
  4. Healing for your thinking

He has seen the blind see and the lame walk, but believers also need healing for the mind and a higher level of thinking, like champions. Teach children to think big, and teach them about life from the Word before the street does, because a vacuum is always filled. Pastors need a large vision, because there are people with a desire to give large amounts to a worthy vision, and fear of man must not stop the truth being taught.

Illustration: In one service in Swaziland seven to ten blind people received their sight, including the leader of a blind and deaf society, whose daughter, his interpreter, complained that she no longer had a job. He also taught children the names of the numbers beyond a million, up to septillion, as a game.

“How about us jumping into the escalator and going to another level of thinking?”

    • Proverbs 23:7
    • 1 Samuel 15
    • Proverbs 29:25
  5. Money secures the truth

The Lord makes poor and makes rich, a slack hand brings poverty, the blessing of the Lord makes rich and adds no sorrow, and the generous soul is made rich. The chief priests gave the soldiers a large sum to say the disciples stole the body, and that lie is still told today. If money could secure a lie, money given to the Lord secures the truth: it keeps a church standing where the truth is preached.

“Your money given to the church and given to the Lord, it's securing the truth.”

    • 1 Samuel 2:7-8
    • Proverbs 10:4
    • Proverbs 10:22
    • Proverbs 11:25
    • Matthew 28:11-15
    • Matthew 5:13-14
  6. Learn to say 'I am a millionaire'

Introducing the Business and Leadership subtitle, Why You Can Be a Millionaire, he reads the Beatitudes and says he will give ten reasons. He tells how God once told him to confess 'I am a millionaire', and he choked because he did not believe it in his heart. He kept saying it until it moved from his mind into his heart, and then he began to see it manifest; he urges the church to start confessing it too.

“I had to learn to say, I am a millionaire.”

    • Matthew 5:2-12
    • Matthew 12:34
    • Proverbs 23:7
  7. 1. God wants you to be the head and not the tail

God said we should be the head and not the tail, above only and not beneath, if we heed His commandments and are careful to observe them. That means God wants you to grow financially.

“God wants you to be the head.”

    • Deuteronomy 28:13
  8. 2. All the gold and silver belongs to God

As heirs of God we have the legal right to it, but it must be used for His glory.

“Your money must be used in the kingdom of God to secure the truth.”

    • Haggai 2:8
  9. 3. We are God's highest creation

We were made in the image and likeness of God, not evolved from apes, and commanded to possess and dominate the earth; wealth plays an important role in that. Whether you are a mechanic, panel beater, accountant or professional, God wants you to have dominion in your sphere, even in a recession. Be a good receiver as well as a good giver, because refusing a gift robs the giver of a blessing, and don't apologise for the car you drive or the house you live in: it is the blessing of the Lord.

Illustration: A pastor of a church of several thousand once told him he was a bad receiver of gifts; he told him he was robbing the giver of a blessing.

“You may start off as being a worker. You must end up owning the company.”

    • Genesis 1:26-28
    • Proverbs 11:25
    • Proverbs 10:22
  10. 4. Your knowledge makes the difference

The rich and the poor have this in common: the Lord is the maker of them all. God is rich to all His children, but He does not determine your financial status; your knowledge of the principles of wealth creation does. There is the person of Jesus, whom you meet in prayer and worship, and there are the principles of Jesus, such as seedtime and harvest, which create wealth.

“If you have knowledge of how to create wealth, that will determine your financial status, not God.”

    • Proverbs 22:2
    • Genesis 8:22
  11. 5. Money is necessary to live in a material world

Money is to the material world what oxygen is to the body.

“What oxygen is to the physical body, money is to the material world.”

  12. 6. We are commanded to be fruitful

Without money our ability to bear kingdom fruit is minimal. Fruitfulness is a command and God's intent for you, in godly things.

“Fruitfulness is God's wish for you, God's desire for you.”

    • Genesis 1:28
  13. 7. A Christian is a giver and abides in wealth

The blessing of the upright exalts the city. One scatters and yet increases, while another withholds more than is right and it leads to poverty. If you are stuck in poverty, ask what kind of giver you are: do you tithe, give offerings and first fruits?

“A Christian is a giver and abides in wealth.”

    • Proverbs 11:11
    • Proverbs 11:24-26
  14. 8. Christians are in covenant with God

Our covenant opens the heavens to us, giving unlimited access to heaven's resources through our relationship with Jesus Christ.

“We have unlimited access to the heavens' resources because of our relationship with Jesus Christ.”

  15. 9. Christians have the power to gain wealth

Through the Word we have access to God's wisdom, favour, empowerment and ability to create wealth; there is an anointing for wealth, and like the woman who touched the hem of His garment, you must make a demand on it. Many pious believers have learned prayer and intercession but were never taught tithing, sowing or seedtime and harvest, so they stay broke; the mind is a muscle that must be developed with information.

Illustration: Bodybuilders develop their muscles with nutrition and exercise; believers must develop their thinking the same way.

“If I heal him, what's the difference if I heal your finances?”

    • Deuteronomy 8:18
    • Proverbs 10:22
    • James 5:16
    • Mark 5:28
  16. 10. God takes pleasure in the prosperity of His people

This gives us heaven's backing to prosper for His glory: let the Lord be magnified, who has pleasure in the prosperity of His servant.

    • Psalm 35:27

Putting it into practice

  • Discern the important people in your life and stop wasting time on those who hold you back.
  • Keep learning: invest in books, education and counsel from those who have succeeded.
  • Tithe and give, and be a good receiver too.
  • Confess daily, 'I am a millionaire'.
  • Stop apologising for the blessing of the Lord.

Closing

He reads Psalm 35:27 and has the church finish the line until they say it like they mean it, leads them in confessing that their poverty is over and business and ideas are coming, and has them tell a neighbour they are standing next to a multi-millionaire. From the poisoned pot of stew and the little leaven, he says the devil has sown a small lie into believers' minds, declares that from today they will not apologise for their prosperity, and hands over for the confessions.

Declarations he led

  • I am a millionaire. I am a multi-millionaire.
  • I'm extremely fruitful.
  • Amen, it's on me.
  • From today, my poverty is over.
  • I'm going to be growing and growing, wealthier and wealthier.
  • Things are going to happen. Contracts are coming. Business is coming my way. Ideas, concepts, insights. Things are going to change.

In his words

  • “The greatest mistake you'll ever make is you stop being a learner.”
  • “You can be a good giver, but a bad receiver.”
  • “What oxygen is to the physical body, money is to the material world.”
  • “Your money given to the church and given to the Lord, it's securing the truth.”
  • “From today, we don't apologise for our prosperity.”
