Not by Might Nor by Power: The Days of Miracles Are Not Over
Dr RJ Sing, 14 min
Originally preached as “Sean Simmers' Testimony”
Sermon outline
Miracles still happen, and they come not by human might or power but by God's Spirit, so those who serve Jehovah should expect Him to come through.
Main text
- Zechariah 4:6
Opening
Before his part, Sean shares a testimony of healing and provision. When Sean finishes, he asks him to stay standing and responds to the church.
Sean's testimony
Sean, a senior person at a large construction company, tells how his young engineers pray together at the start of each year, and how a colleague from work, not a member of the church, came to a service for prayer and was healed. Through retrenchments and a hard season for construction he kept his team calm and thankful, sowed a seed when the pastor called for it, and saw five new contracts and an industry award. He reminds the church, from the story of Elijah, that the Lord is always in control.
An outstanding miracle from the congregation
He calls it an outstanding miracle and testimony from a man sitting in the congregation: a woman from Sean's work, not even from the church, received her healing, and after the call to sow for the 58 blessings, God gave Sean's company five brand-new contracts that sustained him, the company and all its employees.
“I mean, this is an outstanding miracle and testimony that came out of the mouth of a man that's sitting in the congregation.”
The days of miracles are not over
If people outside the Christian faith can believe that God will come through, he asks, why can't those who serve Jehovah believe the same?
“The days of miracles are not over. Miracles still happen.”
Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit
Quoting Zechariah, he says it is not by human ability, the power of man or the influence of man, but by the Spirit of the Lord. He thanks God for the testimonies of that week and the week before, and prays that God will lead, guide and work miracles for the church.
“It's not by might, nor by power, not by human ability, not the power of man, not the influence of man, but by my spirit, saith the Lord.”
- Zechariah 4:6
Putting it into practice
- Believe that miracles still happen today.
- Trust God's Spirit rather than human ability or influence.
Closing
He thanks God for His wonderful name, asks Him to bless the Word as he teaches and preaches under the anointing, and welcomes everyone to church. The sermon that follows is not part of this recording.
