Say It, Do It, Receive It, Tell It: Putting God's Faith to Work

Originally preached as “Speak Faith, Change Your Future Today!”
Sermon outline
The God kind of faith is released through the heart and the mouth, so believe God's Word, speak it, act on it and see yourself with it, because you are from a supernatural class.
Main text
- Romans 10:6-10
- Mark 11:23-24
Opening
He opens straight into Romans 10:6-10, announcing his subject that morning as the application of the God kind of faith. From Mark 11:23-24 and Matthew 21:21 he teaches that you will have what you say, so be careful how you pray and what you say. He warns that Satan tries to steal the Word, so we must fight to keep our thinking in line with God's thoughts, holding fast our confession as Hebrews 4 urges.
Step one: say it
Your faith will not work beyond your confession, and death and life are in the power of the tongue. Whatever you want in your life, begin to say it, even while you are struggling.
Illustration: If you don't have a job, say 'I have a job'. If things are not going right, say 'I'm getting promoted'.
“Whatever you want in your life, begin to say it.”
- Hebrews 4:12-16
- Proverbs 18:7
- Proverbs 18:21
Step two: do it
Put action to what you are saying. Whatever God's Word says you can do, you can do, and whatever the Holy Spirit has told you, go and do it, because it will yield results.
Illustration: Mary at the wedding in Cana telling the servants, 'Whatever he says to you, just go do it.'
“Whatever God's word says you can do, you can do it.”
- John 2:5
Step three: receive it
When you meditate, pray and praise, see yourself having received it. Look at the things that are not seen and make no provision for the flesh. The devil makes the same suggestions to everyone, so refuse to be dragged back down to the natural.
Illustration: Conversations that pull him down to the natural irritate him, because all week he has been fighting doubt with the Word and seeing the church's future: families coming, conversions, a traffic jam of cars on the road.
“Vision yourself with having received it.”
- 2 Corinthians 4:18
- Romans 13:14
Step four: tell it
Speak out your belief and your confession. We do not have to make God's Word work, because it carries its own power; we only give voice to it and send it out, and God watches over his Word to perform it. We are from a supernatural class, and it shows in our countenance.
Illustration: Send out the Word to heal your land, your marriage, your business and your finances, as God sent his word and healed them.
“We do not have to make God's word work. It has enough inherent power in itself to work.”
- Psalm 107:20
- Luke 6:38
- Jeremiah 1:12
1. Faith will not work in an unforgiving heart
Every day something happens that can make us angry, and if we allow it, unforgiveness and strife seep in. When they do, our faith stops working.
“When strife enters into our heart, our faith stops working.”
- Mark 11:25-26
2. Faith is not in the head; faith is in the heart
The head and the heart argue, but we do not operate by logic or natural information. The heart is the production centre of your life, so keep it open to God, his Word and his Spirit whatever the news says. Teach your children to believe God and hold family altars.
Illustration: The day he believed in Christ, it was not his head but his heart that drew him.
“Faith is not in the head. Faith is in the heart.”
- Romans 10:8-10
3. With the heart man believes
The devil's schemes aim to draw you away from faith, the Word and church, and you can sit in church with a backslidden heart, as Saul did. Believers are not defined by race or group but are a royal priesthood and a holy nation, so we can call forth things that are not. Feed the inward man with the Word, because it is the Word that builds you up and gives you an inheritance.
Illustration: Years ago he told the church, 'We are not black or white, or Asian or coloured. I am a royal priesthood', and says he had to say it a thousand times before it reached his inner consciousness.
“We are not natural people. We are from a supernatural class.”
- Ephesians 6:11
- 1 Peter 2:9
- Romans 4:17
- 2 Corinthians 4:16
- Acts 20:32
4. Faith must be released through the mouth with words
Heart faith is based on the Word, not feelings, and faith based on feelings leads to spiritual ruin. There are only two systems, the kingdom of God and the world, and the world will get worse in the last days. We are called to separate ourselves but not to segregate ourselves: influence the world you work in and witness there.
Illustration: Go into all the world means your world too: if you are a hairdresser, hairdressing is your world; if you are an accountant, accounting is your world.
“We are not people of feelings. We are people of faith.”
- 2 Timothy 3:1-4
- 2 Corinthians 6:17
- Mark 16:15
5. Faith works by praying or by saying
Some miracles came with prayer and some by a word alone, so both praying and saying matter.
Illustration: The man at the Beautiful Gate was raised without prayer, Jesus raised the widow's son without prayer, and Peter raised Tabitha after prayer.
“So prayer and saying is very, very important.”
- Acts 3:1-8
- Luke 7:11-15
- Acts 9:36-41
Seven ways to use the power in your mouth
He closes with seven abilities to develop: speaking positive confessions over your life and ministry, preaching the Word, teaching the Word, making positive proclamations over your congregation, home cell or workplace, counselling and advising people, persuading men and women into the kingdom, and creating and inventing things with your mouth.
Illustration: When he comes to church he says, 'Lord, the people in our church are blessed. They're blessed coming in, blessed going out, they're highly favoured of the Lord.'
“Develop your ability to create and invent things with your mouth.”
Putting it into practice
- Say what God's Word says about your life, even before you see it.
- Put action to your confession and do what the Holy Spirit has told you.
- Forgive quickly so that your faith keeps working.
- Feed your spirit with the Word, good preaching and good books.
- Influence the world you work in by sharing your faith there.
Closing
He leads the church in confessions of wealth, favour and a bright future, and declares the devil a liar. He then gives them a saying from his prayer book to write down and repeat, trusting that his words will echo in their hearts through the week and propel them forwards.
Declarations he led
- I'm rich. I'm very rich. I'm wealthy. I'm blessed beyond measure. I'm highly favoured.
- The Lord is with me. The Lord is with my family. Good things are going to happen to me this week. Doors are going to swing open.
- Something lovely is going to happen to me. I'm going to meet the right person at the right time to swing the right door open. My future is bright.
- Satan has no place in me, no power over me, no unsettled claims against me. All has been settled by the blood of Jesus.
In his words
- “You cannot believe beyond your knowledge of the word of God.”
- “Your faith will not work beyond your confession.”
- “It takes a man and a woman of faith to cling to the word of God and to keep on speaking the word of God when circumstances are adverse.”
- “God didn't ask us to segregate ourselves. He said to us, separate yourselves.”
- “Satan has no place in me, no power over me, no unsettled claims against me.”
