If God Said It, He Will Do It: The First Key to the Highest Faith
Dr RJ Sing, 20 min, Part 2 of The Highest Kind of Faith
Originally preached as “The Highest Kind of Faith, Part 2”
Sermon outline
The highest kind of faith begins with knowing the integrity of God's Word: if God said it, He will do it, so a believer who has grown up stops crumbling, presses in, gives, and honours the Word.
Main text
- Numbers 23:19
- Jeremiah 32:26-27
Opening
Part 2 picks up at the fifth of his five basic confessions, 'the Lord is my wisdom', and repeats his teaching from the end of Part 1 on not camping in Lo-debar, growing from a child into a son, and praising God in the trial. He then moves on to what a true leader looks like, and finally introduces seven keys to produce the highest type of faith.
A true leader stands while he is going through it
If you want to lead in church, you cannot be falling to pieces yourself. He goes through more in a week than many go through in a year, yet he does not cry to the congregation or ask a new believer for money; he has learned to be a son, to praise, and to see God as his deliverer. Stop looking down and walking a lame walk, and lift your eyes to the Lord.
Illustration: Humpty Dumpty had a great fall, and some who want to preach need to be stuck together with super glue every time he meets them.
“I'm not here to make you sad. I'm here to make you glad.”
- Psalm 121:1-2
Stop being tossed to and fro: press into the things of God
Believers must stop being children tossed by every wind of doctrine, hearing a word in church and forgetting it on the way home. The kingdom of God suffers violence and the violent take it by force, so get determined for God. Stop being upset about everything, from the food to the shoe polish to the pastor not greeting you.
Illustration: A woman with cancer asked him to pray for her at home. She had waited five hours at the hospital to see a doctor, yet would not come and sit in church for an hour to have hands laid on her.
“It's about time we get determined for God.”
- Ephesians 4:14
- Matthew 11:12
Open your hands: be a blessing
If you are not fruitful, giving and benefiting other people, you are simply taking up space. Even if you are poor, cook a pot of food and take it to someone less fortunate, and see what God will do for you. God taught him a secret: if he sows, he will receive.
Illustration: 'Lord, you know me. My name is Jimmy. Please give me.' Jimmy is not receiving because his hands are closed.
“You're not receiving because your hands are closed.”
Seven keys to the highest type of faith. Key 1: know the integrity of God's Word
What is the use of going to church for forty or fifty years without seeing God move? Often it is not an issue of faith but of knowing our legal rights in Christ, so discover the truth in God's Word to recover yourself. The first key is that God is not a man that He should lie: His Word is like fire and a hammer, it will never pass away, and nothing is too hard for Him. So honour the Word: come early, prepare your heart, and leave the cell phone in the car.
Illustration: He never takes his cell phone into church, because God is not on Vodacom or MTN. That week the Lord gave his son a dream three times, and one night in Ladysmith God woke him at three in the morning with a word, which he wrote in his diary.
“If God said it, he will do it.”
- 1 Kings 18:24
- Numbers 23:19
- Jeremiah 23:29
- Matthew 4:4
- Matthew 24:35
- Jeremiah 32:26-27
- John 14:14
Putting it into practice
- Learn to stand and encourage others while you are going through your own trials.
- Hold on to the Word you hear, and don't forget it on the way home.
- Give to someone less fortunate, even when you are poor.
- Arrive early, prepare your heart, and leave your cell phone out of the service.
- Study and meditate on the integrity of God's Word.
Closing
The recording ends in the middle of the first key. He urges people to stop complaining and instead go on their knees and ask God, then thank Him, walk away as though they have received it, and praise Him for it. Keys two to seven are not included.
Declarations he led
- Today I have the wisdom of the Lord. I function in divine wisdom.
- Yes, Lord, I praise you. Yes, Lord, the Lord is my shepherd. Yes, Lord, I'm free. Yes, Lord, you are my wisdom, my righteousness, my sanctification, my redemption. Yes, Lord, we'll make it together.
In his words
- “I'm not here to make you sad. I'm here to make you glad.”
- “You must discover the truth about you in God's word so that you can recover yourself.”
- “If God said it, he will do it.”
- “One word from God will change your life.”
- “You're not receiving because your hands are closed.”
