Sermon outline
It is God's will for His people to walk in health, so believers must fill themselves with the knowledge of God's Word and speak in line with it.
Main text
- 3 John 2
- Hosea 4:6
Opening
Speaking to a television audience, he explains that as ministers lay hands on the sick, they meet people who have not received or kept their healing, and he wants to address why. He first settles that healing came through the cross and that God is willing to heal, quoting 3 John 2 and Jesus' words to the man who asked if He was willing.
It is God's will for you to be healed
God wishes above all things that His children prosper and be in health. When someone asked Jesus whether He was willing, He settled the matter once and for all: 'I am willing, be thou whole.'
“So we know from the Scripture that it is God's will for us to be healed and it is God's will for us to walk in healing.”
- 3 John 2
- Matthew 8:2-3
Number one: my people perish because of lack of knowledge
The knowledge Hosea speaks of is the knowledge of God's Word, which includes divine health. There is a rest for the people of God, and we enter it by reading, studying and meditating on the Word until it becomes part of us. God is love, His Spirit lives in us, and as He is, so are we in this world. He sums this up in three steps: Jesus came to set us free, let God's Word dwell in you richly, and then walk in and enjoy its benefits.
“We need to not only study God's Word, we need to read God's Word, meditate God's Word.”
- Hosea 4:6
- Hebrews 4:9-11
- 1 John 4:16-18
- 2 Corinthians 4:7
- Proverbs 4:7-9
Number two: what you confess
Words that run contrary to God's Word work against a believer receiving what God has provided, so it matters how and what we speak. He teaches from Job that it was not God who took from Job: Job interpreted his circumstances that way, but Job 2:3 shows Satan was behind the ruin, and Job 3:25 shows the fear and dread Job had lived with. Perfect love casts out fear, so believers should use the Word as the sword of the Spirit to change their circumstances.
Illustration: Many Christians quote 'the Lord gave and the Lord has taken away' as if God sends sickness, but he reads it as Job misreading his situation.
“It was not God who took away from Job.”
- 2 Timothy 2:25-26
- Job 1:21
- Job 2:3
- Job 3:25
- Ecclesiastes 10:8
- Ephesians 6:17
Putting it into practice
- Read, study and meditate on God's Word until it becomes part of you.
- Settle in your heart that healing is God's will for you.
- Speak words that agree with God's Word, and use it as the sword of the Spirit over your situation.
Closing
He promises to teach next week how to walk in divine health. He asks viewers to stretch out a hand or touch the television screen as a point of contact and prays over blood conditions, cancers, diabetes and heart conditions, commanding infirmities to go. He gives words of knowledge for a school teacher with severe neck pain and a boy named Peter with eczema, mentions his books Talk Back to the Devil and Lord Teach Me to Pray, and closes with the grace.
In his words
- “It is indeed God's will for us to walk in health.”
- “God is love.”
- “Jesus came to set us free.”
- “Let the word of God penetrate our hearts, dwell in our hearts, overflow, so that we may know God's will, know His word.”
- “It is very important how you speak and what you speak.”
