Originally preached as “The Secrets of the Thousand Times More, Part 2”

Sermon outline

The Holy Spirit, who loves with an uncommon love, is your true source for a thousand times more, and depending on Him means obeying His promptings, honouring the tithe and learning to handle prosperity.

Main text

  • Deuteronomy 1:11

Opening

Before greeting the church he calls forward everyone who knows Jesus but is not yet filled with the Holy Spirit, and anyone wanting deliverance from a habit such as smoking or drinking, and lays hands on them, telling them to open their mouths and praise God until they speak in tongues. He tells how he answered an altar call at a Reinhard Bonnke meeting in Durban North and was filled with the Spirit later at home in the shower, and says he has received a measure of grace each time great men of God have laid hands on him. He then introduces part two of the secrets of a thousand times more and reads Deuteronomy 1:11.

  1. There is an anointing for prosperity

Whatever labels people use, such as 'healing gospel' or 'prosperity gospel', and whatever errors men and women of God make, the Word of God stands for ever. When the kingdom came it brought multiplication: the loaves and fish multiplied and the water was turned into wine. As there is an anointing for healing, there is an anointing for prosperity, and whatever level you are at, there is always a higher level.

“As there is an anointing for healing, there is an anointing for prosperity.”

    • Isaiah 40:8
    • Acts 10:38
    • Matthew 14:19-21
    • John 2:1-11
  2. Six qualities of the uncommon love of the Spirit of God

Uncommon love pursues, seeking and saving the lost; it protects, because God is jealous over you, fights on your behalf and curses those who curse you; it provides as you seek first the kingdom; it heals and mends; it is the fruit of the Spirit, shed abroad in your heart; and it gives, as God gave His Son. So don't walk in condemnation, which is of the devil: come boldly to the throne of grace and be bold as a lion in your station of life.

“Every child of God is a product of love.”

    • Luke 19:10
    • Exodus 20:5
    • Genesis 12:3
    • Matthew 6:32-33
    • Exodus 15:26
    • Romans 5:5
    • John 3:16
    • Hebrews 4:16
    • Proverbs 28:1
  3. The Holy Spirit requires your recognition

The Holy Spirit is your true source for a thousand times more, and He wants to be acknowledged: He walks with you, talks to you, lives in you and leads you. In a pressured meeting when you don't know what to say next, He quickens your mind, and afterwards you wonder where the words came from.

“It is the Holy Spirit that gives you that power to become 1,000 times more.”

  4. Depend on the Holy Spirit for peace, every good thing and every wealth-making idea

Depending on Him is evidenced by peace concerning provision, because He is Jehovah Jireh and will never leave you. He is the source of every good thing, and after the week of prayer and fasting he expects an explosion of good things. He is also the source of every success, idea, gift or concept that can generate wealth; and because emphasising one truth at the expense of another becomes error, be taught the whole Word, so the Spirit can remind you of it when challenges come.

“If you emphasise one truth at the expense of another truth, it becomes erroneous doctrine.”

    • Genesis 22:14
    • Hebrews 13:5
    • Psalm 84:11
    • John 14:26
  5. Your obedience to the Holy Spirit guarantees uncommon blessing and increase

When the Spirit prompts you to do something, don't hold back or rebuke it as the devil, who only ever tells you bad things. Be a good steward of obedience: when you are obedient in small things, He can trust you with bigger things.

“When you become obedient in small things, he can trust you and he'll give you bigger things.”

  6. The Holy Spirit is a person and the author of the Word

He is not fire, rain, a cloud, a bird, a dove or an 'it'; He is a person, the Comforter who abides with you for ever, and Jesus trusted Him to finish what He started. He moved the men and women who wrote the Bible, and the Word is the sword of the Spirit, which Jesus used in His time of crisis, so search out God's promises and stand on them. People will disappoint and forget you, but God never forsakes you.

“People will forsake you. But not God.”

    • John 14:16
    • Ephesians 6:17
    • Hebrews 13:5
  7. Stay under spiritual covering

Remember who led you to your church, who married you, who dedicated your children and who stood with you at a funeral. Shepherds must give account for those they lead, so talk to your shepherd rather than leaving because 'God told me' in a dream. Some people can't handle prosperity: when a payout comes they suddenly have a new vision, but stepping out from the covering on the house of God exposes them to the enemy; and don't chase a visiting prophet, because we have a more sure word of prophecy.

“There is an anointing on the house of God.”

    • Hebrews 13:17
    • 2 Peter 1:19
  8. Tithe a tenth of all your increase

Don't wait until you earn more to tithe, and teach your children to tithe from their pocket money. Tithe on pensions, payouts and insurance too, as he does; misuse in some places is no excuse to withhold, and he explains that the church's funds are banked and tracked and that he draws a salary and pays tax like the staff. A non-tither is cursed, and Jesus still watches how people give, as He watched the poor widow.

Illustration: We don't stop getting married because there are abusive husbands, or stop going to school because there are abusive teachers.

“God will only trust you with what you can handle.”

    • Proverbs 22:6
    • Malachi 3:8-10
    • James 1:22
    • Mark 12:41-44
  9. The Holy Spirit prays for you and gives you a prayer language

The Holy Spirit is the intercessor on earth who prays for you daily and helps your infirmities. He gives you a personal prayer language that only your heavenly Father understands, and praying in it multiplies your confidence and strength in God.

“The Holy Spirit is the earthly intercessor who prays for you daily.”

    • Romans 8:26
  10. Learn to handle prosperity

Be a good steward at the level you are at and God will give you more; put the Lord first and everything else falls into place, because what you sow now is what you and your children will reap. Finally, the Holy Spirit decides your assignment: the problem you were created to solve for others.

“Be a good steward at the level you are at and God will give you more.”

    • Galatians 6:7

Putting it into practice

  • If you are not filled with the Holy Spirit, answer the altar call.
  • Acknowledge the Holy Spirit and obey His promptings, even in small things.
  • Tithe a tenth of all your increase, and teach your children to tithe.
  • Talk to your shepherd before acting on a new 'vision'.
  • Be a good steward at your present level.

Closing

He prophesies that more is coming their way, has the church stand, and leads declarations from the screen: their minds are set on what God says about them, victory is their declaration, they are equipped, and this is their time to shine.

Declarations he led

  • My mind is set on what God says about me.
  • I know His plan for me.
  • Victory is my declaration.
  • I declare I'm equipped.
  • This is my time to shine.

In his words

  • “As there is an anointing for healing, there is an anointing for prosperity.”
  • “Every child of God is a product of love.”
  • “If you emphasise one truth at the expense of another truth, it becomes erroneous doctrine.”
  • “God will only trust you with what you can handle.”
  • “There's always a higher level.”
