Idle Words Cancel the Anointing: Speak Like a Favoured Man

Dr RJ Sing, 1 hr 6 min, from The Favour of God (2009)

Originally recorded as “Extreme Favour, Part 10”

Sermon outline

Your words either grow or drain the measure of anointing and favour on your life, so come to God focused, speak favour over yourself and walk boldly as His child.

Main text

  • Matthew 12:33-37

Opening

He welcomes the church and asks them to turn to Matthew 12 to finish what he began on Sunday. Before reading, he teaches that he can only give as much as the people pull out of him, like a tap opened wide by hunger, and warns them not to let a friend distract them out of the anointing. He shares recent healings: a woman deaf and mute for fourteen years who heard and spoke, and a woman with a spine condition who was healed and then received the Lord.

  1. Make a demand on the anointing: come focused

Church is a meeting with God, not a picnic. Faith is the only thing that moves God, and the anointing flows as wide as your hunger opens it. Keep away from the buddy who distracts you, because the same anointing that can bless you must be handled seriously.

Illustration: Gehazi was told to greet no one on the way with Elisha's staff; the child did not rise, and he suggests Gehazi stopped to talk and the anointing lifted. He also recalls running on the track at school: an athlete keeps his eyes down on the track and never looks around at the bigger runners.

“I can only give you as much as you pull out of me.”

    • Hebrews 11:6
    • 2 Kings 4:29-31
    • 1 Samuel 10:6
  2. Guard your ear gate: words build you or hinder you

When God sends an angel to take you higher, the devil sends something to hinder you, and it comes through words. Encouragement, prophecy and discouragement all come by words, so be careful what reaches your spirit. Get in, get the job done and get out, so that nobody siphons the word out of you on the way home.

Illustration: Nobody goes to gym with sandwiches, cake and five litres of juice; you go intense and focused.

“Because you can receive a word and lose it at the foyer.”

    • 1 Thessalonians 2:18
  3. Idle words cancel the measure of anointing

Idle means useless, dead, non-productive and negative. Jesus had the Spirit without measure, but we carry the anointing in measures, and our words either increase or deplete that measure. Stop being devil conscious and be God conscious, praising Him and saying the favour of the Lord is on you even under pressure.

Illustration: He once gave a man of God a pair of shoes, and the man's first words were about what the devil would say about his new shoes, instead of thanking God for them.

“When you speak or use idle, inoperative, negative words, they cancel the measure of anointing on your life.”

    • Matthew 12:33-37
    • John 3:34
  4. Your spirit man is a bag that carries words

Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks, so you can only speak what is stored inside. Hide the Word in your heart, listen to it over and over until you become one with it, and under pressure the Word will come out to meet the circumstance with a force that makes mountains, finances and sickness bow.

Illustration: Jesus spoke to the fig tree and it withered from the roots.

“Words carry a force and that force cancels mountains before you.”

    • Matthew 12:34
    • Mark 11:23-24
    • John 15:7
  5. Change the tree: become favour conscious

Every person has a tree inside producing fruit on the outside, and sickness or poverty are diseased branches that the Word must cut out. By your words, not your spouse's or neighbour's, you are justified or condemned. Use the same energy you spend saying 'I'm broke' to say 'I'm a man highly favoured of the Lord', forty or fifty times a day, because you are a partner with God and He cannot give you what you do not say. Your race, sex or status do not decide your results; God looks at your spirit man.

Illustration: Some have spoken their husbands and children down to the ground by repeating how bad they are.

“Your words will make you and your words will break you.”

    • Matthew 12:33
    • Matthew 12:37
    • Proverbs 10:22
    • Mark 11:23
  6. Don't apologise for your existence

Believers are kings and priests, citizens of heaven, the salt of the earth and the light of the world. Be kind and humble, honour people, but fear no one and stop standing timidly in the corner while others speak filth. It is time for the church to get its backbone back and be bold as a lion.

Illustration: He tells how God once allowed him to see Satan in the spirit, and when he asked why, the answer was so that he would never fear him again.

    “God wants Christians with backbones.”

    • Romans 13:7
    • Matthew 5:13-14
    • Proverbs 28:1
  7. A prophetic word: the days of extreme favour have come

Speaking as their prophet as well as their pastor, he declares that this month and the months to follow will be a new level: bigger contracts, promotions and supernatural increase, and the wealth of the wicked transferred to the righteous. He tells the leaders to lay hands on the sick and cast out devils themselves, shares testimonies of members' increase and tithing, and tells the church to think big, talk big and walk big without arrogance.

Illustration: A man who began to tithe after reading the Faith Chronicles told his home group he is now nearly turning business away. He also tells how the Lord told him to help pay another ministry's rent, and he is trusting God to sow into it.

“Your days of smallness is over.”

    • Zechariah 4:6
    • Proverbs 13:22
    • Galatians 3:29
    • Isaiah 54:2
  8. When God prospers you, don't forget the house of God

Be wise when the blessing comes: keep tithing and honour God with your substance, because everything belongs to Him. Do not complain when you are challenged, because complaining on the brink of your miracle stops God's hand from working for you.

Illustration: He closes with a story told by another minister about a man whose mine was saved by a huge diamond, who then refused to honour God with the tithe and lost everything within months.

“When God blesses you and prospers you, don't forget about the house of God.”

Putting it into practice

  • Come to church focused and make a demand on the anointing; don't sit next to someone who will distract you.
  • Replace idle and negative words with words of favour, saying many times a day that you are highly favoured of the Lord.
  • Hide the Word in your heart by hearing and reading it over and over.
  • Walk boldly as a child of God and stop apologising for your faith.
  • Keep tithing and don't complain when you are challenged.
  • Bring a written list of what you are trusting God for until the end of the year to Friday's prayer meeting.

Closing

He prophesies that people will see the church shining and ask 'what meaneth this', and they will answer 'this is that' spoken by the prophets, like Isaac who grew very great. He announces the Friday prayer meeting, asking each person to write down what they desire from God until year end and bring it in an envelope as a point of contact, thanks the church for Father's Day cards and gifts, welcomes visitors and gives a salvation call. He has them say 'God's multiplying me' and releases them with a blessing for extreme favour and no sorrow.

Declarations he led

  • I'm a man highly favored of the Lord.
  • I'm experiencing favor. The favor of the Lord is on me. The blessing of the Lord that maketh rich adds no sorrows upon my life.
  • God's multiplying me.

In his words

  • “I can only give you as much as you pull out of me.”
  • “Because you can receive a word and lose it at the foyer.”
  • “Your words will make you and your words will break you.”
  • “I'm not speaking to a bunch of deadbeat Christians that don't know anything. I'm speaking to kings and priests in the house of God.”
  • “The days of addition are over. It's now the days of multiplication.”
