Jesus Preachers, Not Prosperity Preachers: You Are Abraham's Heir

Dr RJ Sing, 2 hr 3 min

Originally recorded as “Give Your Seed a Specific Assignment, Part 1”

Sermon outline

Before you can give your seed an assignment you must stop thinking with the world's wisdom and believe God's Word that, as Abraham's seed through Christ, you are already rich.

Main text

  • 1 Corinthians 2:4-6
  • Galatians 3:13-29

Opening

After a devotional, worship and an opening prayer, he tells the church he is titling the message 'give your seed a specific assignment', that he will not rush, and that this will be part one, continued on Sunday. He reminds them that the Word takes time to penetrate the mind and change the way you think, and that it cannot work in you if it does not enter you through preaching and teaching.

  1. Not man's wisdom but God's wisdom

Paul's preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, so that faith would stand in the power of God. The wisdom of men is the doctor's report, the bank's figures, the economists and the media; the wisdom of God is His Word, and the two are in opposition. Your trust is not in your job, salary, business or medicine but in God, who gave you stewardship and will give you another source if one dries up.

Illustration: A doctor who says nothing more can be done, or a bank that says your figures do not qualify you for a loan: that is the wisdom of men.

    “We are not motivational speakers.”

    • 1 Corinthians 2:4-6
    • Romans 8:7
  2. Uproot the old mentality: be teachable

Years of wrong teaching have built a stronghold in the mind that must be demolished and renewed with a fresh word. He had to un-teach himself many things he had been wrongly taught. Age makes people set like a rock, but anyone of any age who stays teachable will grow.

Illustration: The father who answers every request with 'does money grow on trees?', and the child who grows up to say the same thing to his own children. Some minds need not a chipping hammer but a jackhammer.

“The key to learn and grow in the things of God, it doesn't matter what your age is, if you can just be teachable.”

  3. Jesus cancelled the transaction of the fall

When Adam committed high treason, three things came on the human race: spiritual death, sickness and poverty. Jesus Christ nullified every one of those transactions and made you a joint heir with Him; He is waiting for you to believe it, appropriate it and walk in it. As God's Spirit heals the sick, the same principle applies to your wallet, and ministering angels work for you while you sleep.

Illustration: A man who had recently joined the church was healed and his doctor later found no trace of the disease. He then takes a member's wallet and says the same anointing that cancels sickness can cancel lack.

“Jesus Christ came and nullified every transaction.”

    • Hebrews 1:14
  4. If you are willing and obedient

God promises the good of the land to the willing and obedient, and the fault is never on God's side when people do not receive it. People resist teaching on money yet need it for everything, and they will fight their employer over a hundred rand while ignoring God's easier way. To exercise faith effectively: think and believe in line with His Word, walk in the light of it, and that brings manifestation.

Illustration: If Jesus offered one thing, people would piously ask for more prayer and then skip the prayer meeting. He says he would ask for billions with a mission: to buy television satellites and an aeroplane to take the gospel round the world.

“No, we're not prosperity preachers. We are Jesus preachers.”

    • Isaiah 1:19
  5. You are Abraham's seed: let God be true and every man a liar

Christ redeemed us from the curse so that the blessing of Abraham comes on us, and if you are Christ's you are Abraham's seed and heir according to the promise: a new, born-again genealogy. Christ spoiled principalities and powers, ending sin, disease and poverty, so you walk by faith and say you are rich and healed in the past tense. Every report that contradicts the Word, from a retrenchment to a relative who says your life will be as hard as his, is a lie.

Illustration: The colleague who earns the same salary but drives a bigger car, because his source is not the boss's money but God.

“Let God be true. Every man a liar.”

    • Galatians 3:13-29
    • 2 Corinthians 5:7
    • 1 Peter 2:24
    • Colossians 2:15
    • 1 John 3:1
    • 1 John 4:4
    • Romans 3:4
  6. Blessed to be a blessing: God's will is a full supply

God promised to bless Abraham, make his name great and make him a blessing, and to deal with those who curse him, so you need not fight your own battles. Abraham was very rich in cattle, silver and gold, and rich means a full supply meeting every need with enough to lend and give. God's will is that you prosper and be in health as your soul prospers, and the cattle on a thousand hills, the silver and the gold are your Father's.

Illustration: He tells them he did not grow up in church: he was a Hindu, saved in his twenties, and whenever he read something in the Bible he went out to put it into practice, looking for the sick to pray for, and then believing God's Word on prosperity.

“There's a difference between trying to make it and embracing it.”

    • Genesis 12:2-3
    • Psalm 105:15
    • Matthew 5:13-14
    • Genesis 13:2
    • 3 John 2
    • Psalm 50:10-12
    • Haggai 2:8
  7. Though He was rich, He became poor: guard against poverty consciousness

Jesus was rich, yet for your sake became poor so that through His poverty you might be rich. That is your bloodline, so protect your belief system from people who doubt that God can provide. The God who gave Moses water from the rock, quails and manna from the sky is a wealth producing, miracle producing God.

Illustration: Before raising the little girl, Jesus first put out of the room everyone with a dead consciousness.

“It's a bloodline through Jesus Christ.”

    • 2 Corinthians 8:9
    • Mark 5:40
  8. Seek first the kingdom: find God's way of operating

God will supply all your need according to His riches in glory. You have already found the kingdom; now seek His righteousness, His way of doing things, and work His system so that all these things are added to you. Wealth is not for hoarding but for the gospel and the church, and on Sunday he will show God's way of working.

Illustration: Raised hands from members who came unemployed or struggling in business and have since been employed, promoted or blessed: proof that God is in the promotion business.

“Find God's modus operandi and work it so that all these things will be added to you.”

    • Philippians 4:19
    • Matthew 6:33
    • Matthew 12:34

Putting it into practice

  • Judge every report by God's Word rather than the wisdom of the world.
  • Stay teachable and let the Word renew an old poverty mentality.
  • Say you are rich, healed and blessed, and keep saying it.
  • Meditate on the scriptures from this message until Sunday.
  • When God blesses you, don't forget His house.

Closing

He announces the church's first musical concert on the Friday, saying it is not a fundraiser and that he will pay for anyone who cannot afford a ticket, then takes the offering while prophesying that bills will be paid, houses and cars upgraded and contracts increased, and previews 1 Kings 17 and the widow of Zarephath for Sunday. He then prays at length: for people with very large debts to be cancelled supernaturally, for a man with a broken hand whose pain left, and for the unemployed, telling one man he would hear something within three days, after which the man said he had just been called for an interview that Friday. He ends declaring that no one in the church will be poor again and that heaviness in their homes will be replaced by garments of praise.

Declarations he led

  • Say I refuse to be poor.
  • Let God be true. Every man a liar.
  • Say, I have a full supply.
  • Tell your neighbor I'm rich. Say I'm very rich. And I'm healthy.
  • Say, all things are working together for my good. Say, I can never lack.

In his words

  • “We are not motivational speakers.”
  • “No, we're not prosperity preachers. We are Jesus preachers.”
  • “In order for you to get prosperous in your pocketbook, you first have to get prosperous in your mind.”
  • “That's your new genealogy. A born again genealogy.”
  • “There's a difference between trying to make it and embracing it.”
