You Are Going Over, Not Under: Satisfied in the Days of Famine

Dr RJ Sing, 28 min, Part 1 of God's Provision in Financial Famine

Originally recorded as “God's Provision in Financial Famine, Part 1”

Sermon outline

God promises that in the days of famine his people will not be ashamed but satisfied, so keep your faith in him, keep sowing, and expect financial deliverance instead of going under.

Main text

  • Psalm 37:18-19
  • Genesis 26:12-14

Opening

He greets listeners around the world and prays a prayer for revelation and understanding that follows Paul's prayer in Colossians 1. He says he is staying on the subject of faith, with the subtitle God's Provision in Financial Famine, and that over the years he has learned that God's Word has an answer for everything. He then reads Psalm 37:1-2 and 18-19.

  1. In the days of famine they shall be satisfied

There is financial deliverance in your financial famine. God knows what is happening and will bring his people through every crisis victorious and without fear, because fear-based living brings doubt and anxiety while faith keeps its eyes on the Word. The Hebrew word for satisfied, saba, means to be filled to satisfaction, to be full and have plenty.

“You are going over, not under.”

    • Psalm 37:1-2
    • Psalm 37:18-19
  2. You are not exempt from adversity, but you are promised deliverance

God has an eternal inheritance waiting for the upright, yet he is also concerned about daily life on earth and knows what you need before you ask. Every person in every station of life will face trouble, but the believer is promised deliverance and will not be put to shame as long as faith and trust stay in God.

“You are not exempt or immune as a Christian from adversity.”

    • Proverbs 11:8
    • Psalm 91:3
    • 2 Timothy 4:18
  3. What financial famine is

Financial famine is when overdue bills pile up and debt becomes such heavy bondage that fear, doubt and hopelessness grab hold of your mind until you are depressed and discouraged. Debt strangles God's people and holds them back from what they need to fulfil his will, but God promises to deliver those who line up their faith and dare to believe.

“One of the biggest yokes of bondage in the body of Christ today is the bondage of debt.”

  4. Four things God will do if you release your faith and act on the Word

First, God will break the yoke of financial bondage as you obey his pattern of receiving and giving. Second, he will give a miracle of debt cancellation when you take your eyes off the size of the debt. He goes on to say you will reap a hundredfold return if you do not faint, and that God will transfer the world's wealth to his children, and he urges listeners to claim Malachi 3:11 over their finances.

Illustration: He had been speaking to someone that day about Kenneth Copeland's message that we have a covenant with God, which he calls a contract with God.

“If we can get our eyes back on the word of God, God will deliver us.”

    • Galatians 6:9
    • Malachi 3:10-11
  5. Six things you must do to experience financial deliverance

One, bind the spirit of fear, worry and unbelief from your mind. Two, get your eyes off your lack and your financial problems. Three, stop depending on your own limited natural resources and depend on God as your source. Four, do not withhold your tithes and offerings. Five, line yourself up with the Word and walk in obedience. Six, ask in faith without doubting.

Illustration: God has the grapes in the promised land, but he will not put them in our mouths. We have to pluck them and eat them, so we have to be hungry and go after it.

“God is ultimately your source of supply.”

    • James 1:6
  6. Isaac sowed in famine, and God wants to prosper you

Isaac sowed in a time of famine and reaped a hundredfold in the same year, until the Philistines envied him. One of God's names is Jehovah Jireh, God will provide. Your needs and the desires of your heart matter to him, and he takes pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.

Illustration: Isaac's hundredfold harvest in the year of famine.

“Never doubt the giving nature of your Father.”

    • Genesis 26:12-14
    • Genesis 22:14
    • Psalm 35:27

Putting it into practice

  • When fear tries to grab hold of your mind, bind it in Jesus' name.
  • Take your eyes off your lack and the size of your debt and put them back on the Word of God.
  • Keep giving your tithes and offerings where you fellowship, even when money is short.
  • Ask God in faith without doubting.
  • Do not give up, give in, cave in or quit.

Closing

He tells listeners the storm will not last forever and asks them to lift a hand, hold someone's hand or touch the screen as a point of contact. He binds the spirit of fear, prays that God will deliver his people from bondage, financial famine and debt, and speaks the blessing of the Lord over them. He signs off by saying God loves every person of every creed, culture and nation.

In his words

  • “You are going over, not under.”
  • “Fear-based living does not bring joy to a believer.”
  • “One of the biggest yokes of bondage in the body of Christ today is the bondage of debt.”
  • “He has the grapes in the promised land, but He's not going to put it in our mouths.”
  • “You might be in the midst of the storm right now, but the storm is not going to last forever.”
