Sermon outline
Prosperity, like healing, was paid for at the cross, so stop striving and begging: believe, relax, receive, and take authority over what you need.
Main text
- Mark 11:22-24
- Proverbs 10:22
Opening
He promises a jumping, shouting service and says he has come prepared to impart, reminding the church that God wants them to be receivers and that offended and negative people cannot receive. He tells of a visitor from Johannesburg who gave a seed offering and asked for prayer, and within days had an 11,000 rand debt taken over by her employer and the transfer to Durban she had been trusting God for.
You will have whatever you say: laying the foundation
He reads Mark 11:22-24 and stresses that Jesus added no perhaps: have the God kind of faith and you will have what you say. He then lays more foundation texts: the blessing that makes rich without sorrow, a house built by wisdom and filled by knowledge, building houses and living in them, and Christ redeeming us from the curse so that Abraham's blessing comes on us through faith. Anything that is not of faith is sin, and faith will change your circumstances.
Illustration: He reads a commentary on Proverbs 10:22 that describes real prosperity as a divine blessing that comes without anxiety or trouble.
“Faith will change you, faith will change your circumstances, faith will make you rich.”
- Mark 11:22-24
- Proverbs 10:22
- Proverbs 24:3-4
- Jeremiah 29:5
- Galatians 3:13-14
- Romans 14:23
Everything starts by believing: three revelations
He recaps the three revelations from the previous meeting on believing God for a house, or anything bigger than what you are holding: a revelation of divine prosperity, a revelation of peace and prosperity, and a revelation of dominion and authority. Ask God in your private prayer time to open the eyes of your understanding to prosperity. If you struggle in this area, identifying where you are is the start of changing it.
Illustration: There was a time in his own life when nothing he touched worked, because, he says, his hands were not blessed. That changed when he began to meditate on and learn about the blessings of God.
“Everything starts in life by believing.”
Stand in faith for prosperity the same way you stand for healing
The Lord showed him that prosperity is received just as healing is. As Jesus bore sickness and disease on the cross, he took poverty and lack, which he calls a demonic spirit to be rejected and not a lesson from God. You cannot prosper without a prosperous mind, so make a quality decision never again to let Satan put symptoms of debt and lack on you, because God does not override your will.
Illustration: If symptoms come, get help and let the doctors diagnose it: once the thing has a name, that name has to bow to the name of Jesus. He applies the same to debt, lack and stubborn habits, which leave when you get a revelation of the righteousness of God.
“You are not the sick trying to be healed, you are the healed trying to keep sickness away.”
- 3 John 2
- Mark 11:23-24
- Philippians 2:9-10
The revelation of peace and prosperity: God teaches you to profit
In Isaiah 48:17-18 God teaches his people to profit and sighs over them: if only they had listened, their peace and prosperity would have flowed like a river. Look at God's Word and not at your pocket, your bank account or your bills. Know that God loves you as though you were the only person on earth, and that righteousness is a free gift you were born into at the new birth, just as you were born a sinner without doing anything.
Illustration: He deliberately misreads the verse as God teaching you to be poor, so that the church shouts back the right word: profit.
“Your peace and your prosperity is going to flow to you like a river.”
- Isaiah 53:5
- Isaiah 48:17-18
- 2 Corinthians 5:21
Abundant compensation: relax and receive
God told Abraham not to fear, because he was his shield and his abundant compensation, which he explains as far reaching and all inclusive: a blanket of well-being, a bubble of blessing that shields you from debt, sickness and the enemy. God teaches you by his Word and does not need to punish you to teach you a lesson. Peace means nothing missing and nothing broken, so back out of the fights where you are trying to get even, and rest in a prosperity that is already provided.
Illustration: In his early days as a Christian he went to every prayer meeting and prayed so loudly that he lost his voice, thinking God would be moved by volume, until a preacher said that God is not deaf. He learned to relax and pray, and saw God's hand move again and again.
“You don't have to do anything to grab blessings from me. Just believe, relax, receive it.”
- Genesis 15:1
- Psalm 90:10
The revelation of dominion and authority: command what you need to come
Believers have the same authority over the earth that Adam had, and everything he needs, every brick and piece of wood, is already on the earth. When a house is put up for sale or someone resigns a post, the owner has relinquished authority over it, and you can take authority over it and over the money for it. He teaches that angels work on your behalf where money is concerned and wait for your command, and he gives the simple prayer he learned to pray.
Illustration: He used to fast, go on his knees and weep, begging God for money as if tears would move him, until he learned that all he had to do was take authority in the name of Jesus. He had to get rid of the religious mindset that grace must be earned.
“Jesus, I take authority over the money I need.”
- Genesis 1:28
- 2 Corinthians 9:7
- Proverbs 10:22
Two things to write down
Number one: make a confident decision never to live in lack again. Number two: keep confessing that you are constantly living in the divine blessings of God, and remind yourself that you are the blessed of the Lord. He ends the teaching with Psalm 107:7: God has put your feet on a wonderful road that leads straight to a good place to live, so coming to church is never a waste of time.
“Lack is not your portion.”
- Psalm 107:7
Putting it into practice
- Ask God in prayer for a revelation of divine prosperity.
- Make a quality decision never to live in lack again, and reject poverty as you would reject sickness.
- Relax and receive: stop trying to earn the blessing, and leave your enemies to God.
- Take authority in the name of Jesus over the money and resources you need.
- Keep confessing that you are the blessed of the Lord, and bring a Bible and notepad to church so that you become a student of the Word.
Closing
With the church standing he declares a positive shift in their work, businesses and finances, and prophesies unexpected blessings, open doors, promotion and favour, declaring Ephesians 3:20 over them. He prophesies cars, houses and debt cancellation, tells the young people they will not struggle as their parents did, and ends with a shout of praise.
Declarations he led
- I'm the blessed of the Lord.
- I'm very rich.
- I'm the righteousness of God.
- I'm a receiver.
- Jesus, I take authority over the money I need. I command you to come to me. I take my place and I take dominion over which I need. I command it to come to me in the name of Jesus.
- I'll never be poor again. I refuse to be poor. I reject you, you spirit of poverty, in the name of Jesus. I'm rich, abounding in the blessings of God.
- There's a shift in my life. Shift in my business, shift in my finances.
In his words
- “You are not the sick trying to be healed, you are the healed trying to keep sickness away.”
- “God wants you to relax and receive the blessings of the Lord.”
- “Everything that I need from the earth is on the earth.”
- “I had to get rid of that religious mindset that I had to do something to earn something from God.”
- “Lack is not your portion.”
