Don't Eat Your Seed: The Revelation Behind Sowing
Dr RJ Sing, 2 hr 48 min, Part 1 of The Seed Principle (2008)
Originally recorded as “The Seed Principle”
Sermon outline
God transmits life through a seed, and your money is seed in His kingdom, so sow it with revelation, by the leading of the Holy Spirit and for the kingdom's sake, and it will produce a harvest no need can stop.
Main text
- Psalm 147:15
- Genesis 3:15
- 1 Peter 1:23
- Galatians 3:16-19
Opening
After worship, the offering led by Pastor Wesley and a visiting singer's ministry, he prays, tells the church he missed them ('Cape Town was nice, but Durban's better') and thanks the guest preachers who stood in for him. He announces that he will speak briefly on the seed principle, beginning with Psalm 147:15: God's word runs very swiftly.
His word runs very swiftly
In the Amplified Bible God sends forth His 'commandment', singular: when a child of God prays, prophesies or speaks, God sends that order out and executes it. There is no time or space with the things of God, and His Word has an inherent ability to produce.
“God's word is not slack, it's not void of power.”
- Psalm 147:15
- Hebrews 4:12
To learn about something, you must dwell there
The preacher's job is to connect you and change the way you think; your job is to stay connected. Your thinking is governed by observation, association and feelings, and only the Word, like a hammer, breaks old ideas, line upon line. One prosperity message a year will not make you prosperous, so do not attack prosperity teaching: behind every result there must be revelation, and you must become a millionaire in your spirit and plan for it.
Illustration: People think preachers repeat themselves because they have run out of material; 'we got to preach it until you catch it.'
“If you attack prosperity messages you will attract lack.”
- Jeremiah 23:29
- Proverbs 23:7
- Isaiah 28:10
Your money is seed, and it's all about the kingdom
Every seed has power; what is missing is revelation, which is why some sow and see little. In the kingdom money is seed, given to expand the kingdom, so why you sow, prosper, preach and live holy is all about the kingdom. The poor need the gospel, which has power to produce money; seek the kingdom first and prosperity will run after you, and tithe because you love God, not because you fear the pastor.
Illustration: That day a cheque was brought to him with no payee filled in. The Lord told him, 'Some are blessings and some are seed. Don't eat seed': because it was not enough to meet his need, it was seed, so he made it out to Faith in the Word Ministries and sowed it that night.
“If you have a need, sow some seed.”

- Mark 10:29-30
- 3 John 2
- Matthew 6:33
- Proverbs 11:25
Life is transmitted by a seed
From Genesis 3:15 God used the seed principle: Jesus, the promised Seed, was planted to destroy the devil's works, and from one Seed God reaped many sons. We are born again of incorruptible seed, the Word, and His seed remains in us. If you want life, including financial life, go back to a seed.
“God transmitted his divine substance and eternal life through a seed.”
- Genesis 3:15
- 1 Peter 1:23
- 1 John 3:9
- Galatians 3:16-19
Your hands are anointed, so your money is anointed
Because the life of God is in you, everything you touch, including your wallet, purse and bank account, is anointed, if you have the revelation. Money is not evil; it answers all things, and in the hands of a kingdom-minded person it becomes a servant. Only those who can say 'money, go' can say 'money, come'. Every time money reaches your hand, ask God whether it is for your need or for seed.
Illustration: He set aside R2,500 to repair a scratch on his car. That morning someone left a R1,000 cheque at the church, and the repair cost R900: 'a hundred rand tithe and nine hundred rand for your car'. Then he sowed that money too.
“Only people that can say money go can say money come.”
- Ecclesiastes 10:19
God is your source, not people
He once switched off whenever a preacher spoke about money until God told him he had a poverty mentality. The tithe is only a tenth and brings God's protection from the devourer, and believing God's prophets brings prosperity. When a promised gift for the church hall never came, God later sent a man from outside the church with the full deposit for the building: if those near you won't give, God will send a raven.
Illustration: Driving to bank the cheque for the building deposit, a doubtful companion asked, 'Won't this thing bounce?', and he prayed all the way; it cleared.
“So God taught me people are not my source.”
- Malachi 3:11
- 2 Chronicles 20:20
Sow your Isaac
Everything in the kingdom operates by a seed, even a seed sown towards someone who is against you. Many fail God's tests because they hold on to their Isaac and then look for a ram in the thicket. Sow what the Holy Spirit asks for, even the thing you love most, and give your best, not your second-hand things.
Illustration: Over the past month the Lord told him he had too much in his wardrobe, and he called people round and gave away six to eight brand new suits and shirts.
“Even if you give your enemy a seed, I'll cause it to prosper in your hands.”
- Genesis 22:13
To the non-sower, the waiting and the weary
He speaks to three groups standing because they want to prosper: those who do not sow should obey the Spirit's prompting; those who have sown and seen nothing should keep watering their seed with the Word, because it can break through any concrete the devil lays; and the weary should rejoice, because due season is about to come. You were divinely brought into the earth and will be divinely provided for; for every vision God has a provision. Stop killing your harvest with a lacking mouth.
Illustration: Your negative words are like weed killer sprayed on your own harvest.
“For every vision, God has a provision.”
- Galatians 6:9
- Luke 6:38
- Jeremiah 1:5
- Mark 4:39
After the service: the church does not need revival
Staying behind with those who were hungry, he teaches that you can only revive what is dead, and the church has been alive since the Spirit was poured out. Christians are not searching; they have been found and are in the Way. As a 'God-man' rather than merely a man of God, the Spirit goes before you, and because believers live under the law of the Spirit of life, their words, positive or negative, have creative power.
Illustration: On holiday he met pastors who had just finished a seven-day conference and were travelling to another one: 'What are you looking for?'
“Christians never search. We have found.”

- John 14:6
- Matthew 5:13-14
- Romans 8:2
- Proverbs 18:21
- 1 Corinthians 2:4
After the service: God is moved by a seed, not a need
Receive the anointed men and women God sends, because you cannot receive a prophet's reward without receiving the prophet. God's power is everywhere; you capture it by hunger and by making a demand with a seed. Use the measure of anointing and money you already have and God will increase it, first the blade, then the ear. The anointing is not in cloths or oil, which are only points of contact for those who are absent; selling them is merchandising the anointing.
Illustration: A man from Johannesburg sold scrap metal from his yard to buy petrol to drive to one service in Durban; nobody prayed for him, but he went home and had miracle after miracle.
“God is never moved by a need. God is always moved by a seed.”

Putting it into practice
- Every time money reaches your hand, ask God: is this for my need, or is it seed?
- Stop praying for money and start sowing with revelation.
- Look at your wallet, purse and bank account as a bag of seed.
- Give your best, not your second-hand things, when the Spirit asks.
- Keep watering seed already sown with the Word, and stop speaking lack.
Closing
He has the church hold up their wallets and purses and confess that they are bags of seed, invites those who want to prosper to stand, and declares debt cancellation, calm over their financial storm and a harvest that cancels debt. After a salvation call, gifts of Faith Chronicles for visitors and announcements, he prays for the sick at the altar, ministers the anointing to many, and goes on teaching for over an hour before saying he is hungry and must go home.
Declarations he led
- His word runneth very swiftly.
- Today I confess with my mouth and believe with my heart that all of this here is a bag of seeds.
- I have the power to change everything about me.
- I'm loosed. From debt, I'm loosed. From poverty, I'm anointed for prosperity.
- My hands are anointed. My feet are anointed. My purse is anointed. My wallet is anointed. My house is anointed. My business is anointed. My workplace is anointed.
- I'm a wealth producing machine. Money comes to me. Miracles come to me.
- I'm not a poor man. I'm not a poor woman. I'm rich. Jesus came that I might have abundant life.
- I don't attract lack. I attack lack with my words, by the anointing.
In his words
- “Some are blessings and some are seed. Don't eat seed.”
- “If you put money away for a rainy day, that's what you're going to get, a rainy day.”
- “Only people that can say money go can say money come.”
- “God is never moved by a need. God is always moved by a seed.”
- “The way to be needless, stop being seedless.”
