Developing a Faith Image (4): (A Sobering Start)

Dr RJ Sing

“Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.”
1 Peter 1:23

At your spiritual birth a ‘seed’ was deposited or planted within you. The Word seed is derived from the Greek word ‘sperma’ from which we derive our word sperm. At spiritual rebirth the seed of our Heavenly Father was deposited within our hearts or spirits, the ground where it was planted. That seed carries all of His character, qualities and as we grow spiritually, they become more and more evident in the form of a Christ-like character. You can become what you already are in seed form.

Release your mind to consider the fullness of what you have become in Christ. Think in line with this faith image of yourself, act upon it and you will start to become it. It is important that, in developing and working towards your Faith Image, you start from the correct place. This should be the condition you find yourself in right now.

If you want to run in a marathon, your training starts with a sober assessment of your present fitness. If you are totally unfit please don’t plan to run fifteen kilometers a day in the first week! In like manner, you may have a Faith Image, but your first step to taking possession of it, is to know your current spiritual condition. You can work towards it from a right starting place. So remember, you are born again, by the incorruptible seed which is the Word of God. This seed is eternal, and lives and abides forever. Your life is also eternal and you are indestructible as long as you abide in Christ Jesus.
