A God Who Provides
Dr RJ Sing
“And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son. And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah Jireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen.”
God gave Abraham an incomprehensible command to sacrifice his only son as a burnt offering (Gen 22:2). Abraham did what the Lord asked, although he must have found it very difficult and probably did not understand why God has given him such a command. He was willing to sacrifice his son, but in the back of his mind he still counted on God’s promise-he continued to believe that God would provide.
The Lord rewarded Abraham’s faith and obedience. He provided a sacrificial ram in the place of Isaac. Abraham called the place where he would have sacrificed Isaac The LORD Will Provide. Abraham’s Faith nearly cost him his only son. Faith can sometimes be very costly and make unexpected demands on us.
After all, cheap sacrifice is not really a sacrifice. You can measure your Faith by what you are willing to give up. God was willing to give up His son on the cross, to sacrifice Jesus so that the price for your sins could be paid and so that you could be His child. Are you willing to pay the price for your Faith by being obedient to God?
