God Knows You by Name

Dr RJ Sing

“For Jacob my servant's sake, and Israel mine elect, I have even called thee by thy name: I have surnamed thee, though thou hast not known me.”
Isaiah 45:4

Speaking through the prophet Isaiah, the Lord assured Cyrus, for the sake of Israel, He had summoned him by name, even though Cyrus did not acknowledge Him. This is the only time in the Bible that a Gentile is called the anointed of the Lord. Cyrus was a heathen king who did not worship God, and yet, God singled him out to become His instrument, He summoned him by name. God does something unheard of here: He creates a unique event through which a heathen is used to deliver His people.

When God summons the children of man by name, pure grace is always involved. Through Jesus’ crucifixion, He enabled you and me (who, by birth, are not God’s people) to become His people. He knows each of us by name. He knows everything about us.

God promises to be there for you always. Even though a woman might forget the baby at her breast, God will never forget you. “I will not forget you!” See I have engraved you on the palms of my hands… He promises in Isaiah 49:15-16. God invites you by name to be His Child and offers you His mercy. So with each day, accept His Grace and Mercy and begin to ride on His Favor for yourself in this life.
