The Beach Ball Principle: Why a Child of God Cannot Go Under

Dr RJ Sing, 17 min, Part 2 of Resting in the Righteousness of God

Originally preached as “Resting in the Righteousness of God, Part 2”

Sermon outline

Saved by God's mercy and not by your works, you are an heir who cannot go under, made in God's image to speak and take dominion, so affirm who you are constantly and keep doing good.

Main text

  • Titus 3:5-8
  • Genesis 1:26-27

Opening

Continuing the teaching on righteousness from Part 1, the recording opens in Titus 3:5, which he introduces as the scripture that brings balance: being the righteousness of God does not mean you can go on sinning.

  1. Not by works of righteousness, but according to His mercy

God saved us by His mercy, through the washing of regeneration and the renewing of the Holy Spirit, shed on us abundantly. Abundant means overflowing. We do not serve a God who oppresses us but one who blesses us and looks at us as His trophy.

Illustration: Each time God sees you prospering and conquering, He says, 'Wow, that is my child there.'

“God doesn't believe in small doses.”

    • Titus 3:5-6
  2. You cannot fail: a child of God cannot go under

Don't be afraid of devils or situations: if God is for us, who can be against us? People and the devil may try to pull you down, but with Jesus and the Holy Spirit in you, you will come back up. They imprisoned, tortured and tried Paul, yet could not keep him quiet, and a serpent's bite could not kill him.

Illustration: Take a blown-up beach ball to the deep end of a swimming pool and let go of it: it just pops up.

“A child of God cannot go under.”

    • Romans 8:31
    • Psalm 91:7
    • Acts 28:3-6
    • 1 John 4:4
  3. Know who you are: an heir to the promises of God

This truth has to be in your blood, bones and marrow before it starts to happen. He does not belong to the failing or oppressed camp; he is a son of God and an heir of the promises. Abraham was exceedingly rich, and God has designed that you will have houses and lands in this life, not only the next.

Illustration: The land could not contain Abraham and Lot together; the land won't be able to contain you either.

“When I walk, you might feel sorry for me. I don't feel sorry for myself. I know who I am.”

    • Genesis 13:2
    • Genesis 13:6
    • Mark 10:30
  4. Affirm these things constantly, and maintain good works

Paul tells Titus to affirm these truths constantly: talk it, breathe it, wake up and go to bed saying that you are the righteousness of God. But the same passage says those who believe must be careful to maintain good works. Knowing you are righteous is no licence to sin.

“Talk it, speak it, breathe it, live with it, dream about it, wake up in the morning and say it.”

    • Titus 3:7-8
  5. Righteousness is having equality with God

Righteousness is right standing with God, and also having equality with God. A child of human parents is human like them, so a born-again child of God looks just like God. That means you can speak over your business and call your children or an unsaved spouse into the kingdom in Jesus' name.

Illustration: If you are a mom and dad and you have a child, that child is not an alien but a human being just like you.

“So, when you're born again and someone looks at you, who do you think you look like? Just like God.”

  6. Made in His image to have dominion: you are a speaking spirit

Religious people call this blasphemy, but they cannot get results when they pray. God made man in His image to have dominion; the first Adam lost it, and Jesus won it back and gave it to the born-again believer. God is a spirit and you are a spirit, so you can speak things into existence: there is a time for asking and a time for decreeing and establishing.

Illustration: If you live in a one-bedroom house, say, 'Hey, three-bedroom house, you're on your way.' He says he has tried this himself and it works.

“Sometimes we're praying and we're begging instead of just receiving.”

    • Genesis 1:26-27
    • Job 1:21
    • Psalm 27:1
    • Joel 3:10
    • Isaiah 40:31
    • John 4:24
    • Mark 11:23
    • John 14:13-14
    • John 16:23-24
    • John 11:43
  7. Jesus was a radical man: do what He did

We worship Jesus, but do we read how He behaved? He spoke to bread and fish and they multiplied, to a fish that brought up tax money, to a dead man, to water that became wine, and to a storm that became still. The Bible says we must be imitators of Him, so if you love Jesus, do what He did.

“So if you love Jesus, do what he does. Do what he did. Do what he's doing.”

    • Matthew 14:19
    • Matthew 17:27
    • John 2:1-11
    • Mark 4:37-41

Putting it into practice

  • Refuse fear and failure: you will come back up.
  • Affirm daily that you are the righteousness of God, and keep doing good works.
  • Speak over your family, business and circumstances in Jesus' name.
  • Decree and establish God's Word instead of only begging.

Closing

He ends by telling the church that God is great and loves them, and asks why they walk around as though He does not. The teaching continues in Part 3.

Declarations he led

  • I refuse to fail. I cannot fail. I just can't fail. God's blessed me too much to fail.
  • You cannot fail. You cannot go under.
  • I'm a bundle of success.
  • I'm just like God.
  • I'm just like Jesus.
  • Money cometh to me. Favor cometh to me. The blessings of the Lord cometh to me.

In his words

  • “We don't serve a God that oppresses us. We serve a God that blesses us.”
  • “A child of God cannot go under.”
  • “We are doomed not for failure. For success.”
  • “You got to believe this stuff before it starts to happen.”
  • “Now, this is radical stuff. But Jesus was a radical man.”
