Understanding Your Purpose – Part 2

Dr RJ Sing

“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will know what God wants you to do and you will know how good and pleasing and perfect his will really is.”
Romans 12:2 – NLT

What drives your life? Everyone’s life is driven by something. Drive, in most dictionaries define the verb as – ‘Guide to control and to direct.’ Right now you may be driven by a problem, pressure or a deadline. You may even be driven by a painful memory, a haunting fear or an unconscious belief. There are hundreds of circumstances, values and emotions that can drive your life.

Many people are driven by guilt. They spend their entire lives running from regrets and hiding their shame. Guilt driven people are manipulated by memories and they allow their past to control their future. Example: When Cain sinned, his guilt disconnected him from the presence of God. God said, “You will be a restless wanderer on the earth.” This describes most people today. They wander through life without purpose.

Others are driven by resentment and anger. They hold onto their hurts and never get over them and instead of releasing their pain through forgiveness they rehearse it over and over again. Such people clam up and blow up. They need to let go of the past. Job 5:2 (TEV) “To worry yourself to death with resentment would be a foolish, senseless thing to do.”
