The Mercy of God – Part 2
Dr RJ Sing
“All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath. 4But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions it is by grace you have been saved.”
Exodus 33:19 (NIV) “I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.” God forgives all confessed sin. By Grace we are saved and put right with Him. But will He intervene to withhold earthly consequences, will He show mercy, how many times and even after we know better? Here are Scriptures to why, and when and if God doesn’t give some of us what we deserve: Lamentations 3:39 NIV “Why should any living man complain when punished for his sins? Jeremiah 21:14 NIV “I will punish you as your deeds deserve, declare the Lord.” Numbers 32:23 NIV “…You may be sure your sin will find you out.”
So ask yourself this, Is God ineffective at making “sure our sin finds us out”? Are we really getting away with it? Can we continue to count on God’s mercy if we remain unrepentant?
Why does a Holy God let us get away with sin? Romans 2:4 “Don't you realize how patient He is being with you? Or don't you care? Can't you see that He has been waiting all this time without punishing you, to give you time to turn from your sin? His kindness is meant to lead you to repentance.”
