The Mercy of God – Part 3

Dr RJ Sing

“All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath. 4But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions it is by grace you have been saved.”
(Ephesians 2:3-5 – NIV)

When you see just how far God will go, think of how much mercy God has given you such as, most of us have never contracted a disease or gotten pregnant out of wedlock, you have miraculously avoided accidents you deserved due to being reckless, inattentive, even drunk driving and so on. God’s angels must definitely be working overtime administering His mercy. 1 Timothy 5:24 “Remember that some men, even pastors, lead sinful lives, and everyone knows it. In such situations you can do something about it. But in other cases only the judgment day will reveal the terrible truth.”

God’s mercy is vast and amazing and you need His mercy too. Don’t flirt with disaster and take God’s mercy for granted. When God’s mercy is not granted, grace is unlimited and mercy is vast but limited and will end in either, repentance leading to salvation by grace or stored-up wrath and eternal punishment.

In the meantime, God is calling us out of mercy and into obedience. Eventually it dawns on all of us that we cannot get away with unrepentant sin. It’s as if God gradually withdraws his mercy after we have come to a knowledge of truth. God’s mercy has served its purpose and now it is time for obedience.
