Submit with Style

Dr RJ Sing

“I urge you to pay all deference to such leaders and to enlist under them and be subject to them, as well as to everyone who joins and cooperates [with you] and labors earnestly.”
(1 Corinthians 16:16 – AMP)

The word, submit makes some people nervous! The word submit, simply means to have a good attitude. According to the dictionary, one meaning of ‘submit’ is to yield oneself to the authority or will of another, to surrender.

Well in a church context, you must be willing to surrender your way of doing things to the way the leadership needs things done. When speaking of submission, it is important to realize that submission and agreement are entirely different things. You really haven’t submitted unless, even though you disagree, you choose to submit anyway. You know you’re truly submitting when it’s a little hard on your flesh.

To show you the difference between submission and agreement, let’s say your Pastor asks you to do something a certain way, and you think it’s a great idea. You are in agreement. However, what happens when you don’t think it’s a good idea? Well, if you were in charge, you would never do it that way. This is where submission comes in. At this point you have a decision to make. Choose to do it the Lord’s way, to honor your leader by doing it the way he or she wants it without complaining. This is how we submit!
