The Gun That Would Not Fire: Angels, Healings and Deliverance

Dr RJ Sing, 50 min, Part 3 of From Hinduism to Christianity

Originally preached as “From Hinduism to Christianity, Part 3”

Sermon outline

God confirms His call with signs: prophetic words, healings, angelic protection and deliverance, and all the glory belongs to Him.

Opening

Pastor Wesley introduces the third week of the series on becoming a person that God uses, following the earlier programmes on his father's journey from Hinduism into Christianity. This time they start from the point where the church had already begun, and Dr Sing explains that he gave a brief synopsis before but left out pockets of stories that will complete the picture. Pastor Wesley asks the questions and his father tells the stories.

  1. The mantle of Sadhu Sundar Singh

At a conference in Stilfontein, Prophet Kobus van Rensburg called him and Wesley to the front and prophesied that he saw the mantle of Sadhu Sundar Singh falling on him. He did not know the name, so they later searched for it and read how this Indian man met Jesus as a young man and gave his life to preaching the gospel. He came to understand that this mantle was now on him, and said its manifestations would be seen as the stories unfold.

Illustration: The account he read of Sundar Singh collapsing in a Himalayan snowstorm and waking to find a large tiger had kept him warm through the night, which he compares to Daniel in the lions' den.

“And I started to understand that this mantle now was on me because he prophesied it.”

    • Daniel 6
  2. A healing in the car park

Before full-time ministry, while he was an area pastor and working in car sales, a Hindu mother and father ran up to him and his senior pastor in the church car park. Their child had been struck by a falling wardrobe and could not stop shaking, and doctors had not been able to help. He took the child in both hands and prayed; the next day the family came to his office to say the child was completely healed and they wanted to give their hearts to the Lord.

Illustration: The mother shared the testimony with her relatives, and 30 to 40 people began coming to church from that one healing.

“Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, let the healing anointing of the Lord touch this child and make this child a whole.”

  3. Angels singing and angels walking with me

At Constantia Park, with a simple praise team led by a young Pastor Adrian, he and others distinctly heard angels singing in service after service, even when the people stopped singing. Later, many in the congregation saw tall beings walking beside him as he preached. This gave him boldness and confidence that he never ministered alone.

Illustration: He would ask the people to keep quiet and the beautiful voices carried on singing.

“That God has sent part of his army to be with you.”

  4. The gun that would not fire

A young woman told by gynaecologists she could never conceive asked for prayer; months later she called to say she was three months pregnant, and asked him to pray over her new car. As he prayed over it, two armed men held guns to her and to him. The Lord told him to stand still and look at them; the first man's eyes widened and he fled, and the second fired at him but the shot did not go off.

Illustration: Both robbers ran towards the railway station with wide eyes. He believes they saw a warrior angel of the Lord. The car was not taken, no one was hurt, and she later gave birth to a healthy child.

“And the Lord said to me, just stand still and look at them.”

  5. A wall of fire around me

On a church trip up Sani Pass in 2005, he began to perspire in the cold and stopped to wash his face at the border post. An elder, Cliff Naidu, took a photograph, and that evening showed him a ring of fire around him in which an angel's wings and a sword could be seen. He links it to Elisha praying for his servant's eyes to be opened to the army of God around them.

Illustration: The photograph, which he printed in one of his books, was shown on screen during the programme.

“And so the prophet said to him, fear not, for they that are with us are more.”

    • 2 Kings 6:16-17
  6. Casting out evil spirits in the name of Jesus

He tells of two deliverances: in a flat in Sunningdale, God opened his eyes to see a grotesque creature run out when he spoke the name of Jesus; in a house in Phoenix, he and his worship leader Carl prayed and the Holy Spirit came through the open window with a sound like a whoosh, and the evil presence left. He counselled the family never to consult mediums or witchcraft and to join a Bible-based, Spirit-filled church.

Illustration: The lace curtains in the Phoenix bedroom lifted as the spirits left, and a warm presence of God filled the home.

“You can't consult a medium and serve God at the same time.”

    • Matthew 26:41
  7. The glory belongs to God

A very ill Hindu woman, not a member of the church, was carried into the conference centre at North Coast Road. He prayed a short prayer binding the spirit of infirmity, and she began to manifest, then took off the tali string from around her neck, threw it away and shouted that Jesus is Lord. The Holy Spirit told him to step out and let Pastor Mark lead her to the Lord, and she walked to the car completely healed.

Illustration: The usual formula for leading someone to the Lord did not apply: she confessed Jesus before anyone led her.

“Because the glory belongs to me, not to you.”

Putting it into practice

  • Expect God to confirm His call on your life with His power.
  • Be ready to pray for people when they ask, wherever you are.
  • Take courage that God's angels are with you, whether you see them or not.
  • Do not consult mediums or witchcraft; fill your life with Jesus and His Word.
  • Give God all the glory for every miracle.

Closing

At Pastor Wesley's request he prays for viewers troubled by evil spirits and sleepless nights, asking them to keep their eyes open and touch the screen as a point of contact, because believers have the power of attorney to use the name of Jesus. He urges those not yet saved to accept Christ so the Holy Spirit fills the vacuum, since evil spirits can return with seven more, and to join a Bible-based church once lockdown ends. Pastor Wesley then hands over for the salvation prayer and closes the programme.

In his words

  • “In this journey, again and again, God surprised me.”
  • “Whether I could see them or couldn't see them, I knew supernatural power in the form of angels.”
  • “We have the power of attorney by the word of God to use the name of Jesus.”
  • “You don't have to be scared. You don't have to be frightened.”
  • “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, of love, and of a sound mind.”
