Sickness and Disease Must Die: Healed Through Prayer on Zoom

Dr RJ Sing, 5 July 2020, 12 min

Originally preached as “Healed Through Zoom Prayer, 2020”

Sermon outline

God sends His word and heals, even over Zoom or a phone call, so we pray expecting a good report and celebrate that we serve a healing God.

Main text

  • Psalm 107:20

Opening

A presenter welcomes the church family, explains that the weekly Zoom meeting has run since the beginning of lockdown and that towards the end of the last one Pastor was asked to pray for a young lady who was then completely healed, and plays the clip.

  1. You sent Your word and healed them

A prayer request comes in for a member's young relative who is in hospital. He asks for her name and prays from the Psalm shared that night: the Lord sent His word and healed them. He commands her to be healed by the power of God from the crown of her head to the soles of her feet, says we expect a good report and declares that sickness and disease must die.

“We expect a good report in Jesus' name. Sickness and disease must die in Jesus' name.”

    • Psalm 107:20
  2. A good report

The young lady tells the meeting that her test results, which had come back positive twice, came back clear that day, and gives the credit to faith and the power of God. He celebrates with her and invites the next person to share.

  3. Healed after a prayer over the phone

A church member tells how he was rushed to hospital in the early hours, unable to stand. Later that day Pastor phoned and prayed with him; he felt the anointing of God enter him and his body begin to shake, and he got up and walked. The physiotherapist could not believe what had happened, the specialist could not find the problem on the scans, and he was sent home with no medication and went back to work. He asks only brief questions along the way.

Illustration: Told he could not walk, the man walked to the bathroom on his own, and later refused a wheelchair for his scan: if God healed him, why must he sit in one?

  4. We serve a healing God

He celebrates with the man, asks his son Adrian to help show more faces on the screen, gently tells him he should have rested a bit, and leads the meeting in giving the Lord a hand.

“Thank God that we serve a healing God.”

Putting it into practice

  • Bring prayer requests for the sick, even from a distance.
  • Pray the Word: God sends His word and heals.
  • Expect a good report.
  • Share your testimony and give God the glory.

Closing

He calls the meeting to clap for the Lord, thanking God that we serve a healing God, and asks another member what he thinks; the clip ends as the member answers that God is amazing.

In his words

  • “Lord, your word says you sent your word and heal them.”
  • “We expect a good report in Jesus' name.”
  • “Sickness and disease must die in Jesus' name.”
