Be Rich in Good Deeds

Dr RJ Sing

“Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.”
(1Timothy 6:17) {NIV}

In these commentary scriptures, the apostle Paul gives specific commandments that apply to the wealthy. In the wealthy city of Ephesus, there were numbers of the churches who were prosperous and had money. Paul told Timothy to instruct the wealthy believers how to handle the wealth God had given them.

Commandment No 1: Do not be arrogant: (See above 1 Timothy 6:17 (NIV) One of the dangers of having wealth is that many people allow a spirit of pride to take hold in their lives.

Commandment No 2: Do not put your hope or trust in riches. The wealth and riches of this world are uncertain. Wealth and great fortunes have been lost overnight. Those who put their trust in riches will fail. (See Proverbs 11:28). Commandment No 3: Be Rich in Good deeds. God expects those whom He has prospered to use the wealth that He gave them to do good deeds. Commandment No 4: Be Liberal and Generous hearted, eager to share. One of the great dangers wealthy people face is keeping their riches to themselves, instead of giving liberally to others.

Be a wise wealthy person. Be a liberal and generous hearted person, willing to share with those less fortunate than yourselves.
