Sermon outline
You are the treasure Jesus gave everything to buy, chosen before the foundation of the world, so drop the sense of worthlessness and rejection and walk in the blessings of God.
Main text
- Matthew 13:44-46
- Exodus 19:3-5
- Ephesians 1:3-4
Opening
He greets viewers as Dr Sing from Rhema Durban FCI Ministries, quotes Romans 10:17 and prays that the Word will flow unhindered and bring revelation. Picking up from part 2, he reads Genesis 2:20 on Adam naming the animals and recalls that Adam and Eve were created for fellowship with God and that Adam was given the job of keeping the garden, and failed.
Doubt, disbelief, disobedience
The serpent came into the garden and questioned Eve; she entertained the question and was defeated. Questioning God's Word always has consequences, and man took three downward steps: doubt, then disbelief, then disobedience, and was expelled from the garden.
“So when you question God's Word, there are consequences to that.”
- Genesis 3:1-6
- Genesis 3:23-24
The last Adam came for the sons of Adam
God yearns over us with a jealous love, and when we were born again everything changed: the first Adam became a living soul, but the last Adam, Christ, became a life-giving spirit, and God and man were united. Zacchaeus made the effort to climb the sycamore tree, Jesus went to his house, and salvation came to his household; salvation affects what you do with your money.
Illustration: Zacchaeus, a rich man, took a lot of effort to climb the tree, and by climbing he made a demand on the anointing.
“God takes the lowest and he takes it to the highest.”
- James 4:5
- 1 Corinthians 15:45
- Luke 19:1-10
The treasure hidden in the field
In the parable, a man finds treasure in a field and sells all he has to buy the field. The field is the world, but Jesus does not want the field: He wants the treasure in it, which is you. The treasure was dug out from underground and is messed up, and ministry is there to clean it, polish it and bring it back to its original glory.
“God has no second-class children.”
- Matthew 13:44
The pearl of great price
The merchant seeking fine pearls was not a tourist; he knew exactly what a pearl was worth. A pearl is the result of suffering, and you may have been through suffering and asked whether you are worth it, but Christ died for you as an individual. You do not have to suffer low self-esteem or walk with a spirit of rejection.
“You cost him everything, but you are worth it.”
- Matthew 13:45-46
The mirror of God's Word
The church is the object of God's affection and the future bride of Christ, and God's challenge is to bring us from our present condition to become that perfect bride. God's Word is a mirror that first shows us our sinful condition and then, once we are cleansed, shows us that we are a new creation, His handiwork prepared for the good life He prearranged.
“Christ's redemptive mission on earth is a love story played on the stages of time and eternity.”
- James 1:23-25
- 1 Samuel 16:7
- 2 Corinthians 5:17
- Ephesians 2:10
God's two purposes in redemption
In Exodus 19 God says He bore Israel on eagles' wings and brought them to Himself: the first purpose of redemption is a direct personal relationship with God. Israel was so busy with the law, material blessings and the land that they missed the relationship. The second purpose is to make His people His own treasured possession, and Jesus prayed that His people would be one.
“We must fully understand that the primary purpose of God is to bring us to him. Everything else is secondary.”
- Exodus 19:3-5
- John 17:20-23
- 1 Corinthians 2:9
- Romans 8:29-30
Chosen before the foundation of the world
God has blessed us with every spiritual blessing and picked us out for Himself before the foundation of the world. The Greek word for chosen means picked out and appointed to the most exalted office conceivable, the best of its kind. Understanding your value is the foundation for enjoying the blessing of the Lord that makes rich and adds no sorrow, and to repent means to change your mind.
“You are God's choice.”
- Ephesians 1:3-4
- Proverbs 10:22
- Matthew 3:2
- Matthew 4:17
Putting it into practice
- Drop the sense of worthlessness and rejection: you are God's treasure.
- Look into the mirror of God's Word to see yourself as God sees you.
- Make the confession of your value in God aloud.
- Keep holding on by faith for every dream God has put in your heart.
- If you have prayed to receive Christ, find a good Bible-based church and keep growing.
Closing
He declares that viewers will experience God's faithfulness and that every dream and vision God has given them will come to pass, because God is not a man that He should lie. He leads a prayer of salvation, prays for healing and for those in financial crisis, pronounces the priestly blessing in the name of Adonai, and closes by reminding viewers that there are no second-class citizens: people of every nation and ethnic group are made in the image of God.
Declarations he led
- I'm valuable because I'm created in God's class of being. I am vital because God's plans involve me.
- My heritage is to have God's best, to enjoy His compassion and to use His wealth and power for the good of myself and others.
- I am created for life, for love, for power, for prosperity, for success, and for dignity.
- The seeds of greatness are in me. God never created me to be a nobody, but I am a real somebody.
- I therefore recognise my self-value so that I can enjoy the blessings of God.
- I shall no longer discredit or demean or destroy what God created in his own image.
- Every dream that God has put in my heart will come to pass. Every vision God has given me about my future will come to pass.
- Dear God, I come to you in the name of Jesus Christ. Your word says that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Now I ask Jesus to come into my heart and be Lord of my life. I receive eternal life into my spirit.
In his words
- “Jesus does not want the world or the field. He wants the treasure, who is man, in the field.”
- “So I want you to drop the sense of worthlessness.”
- “He wants you just as you are, but he won't leave you there.”
- “You are not rejected in any way, shape, or form from God's perspective.”
- “There are no second-class citizens. All men, irrespective of the nation or ethnic group, are made in the image of God.”
