Sermon outline
Jesus is the High Priest of our confession, so if we say nothing or say the wrong thing we silence Him: break through the discomfort, say what God's Word says about you and hold it fast without wavering.
Main text
- Hebrews 10:23
- Hebrews 3:1
- Hebrews 4:14
Opening
This episode repeats much of Episode 5: the declaration rejecting rejection, Ephesians 4:13-16 as the series' foundation, the seventh step from Hebrews 10:23, confession as saying what God says, and Jesus as the High Priest who is bound to make good every right confession.
Break the barrier
Years before, the Lord challenged him to make a bold confession about his finances in his prayer time. The first few times he almost choked, as if a demon were grabbing his throat, so he had to teach himself to say it; as he kept saying it he began to believe it, to gravitate towards it, and it manifested. If saying what the Word says about you feels uncomfortable, fight and break that barrier.
“Change is difficult. But as I started to say it, I started to believe it.”
Don't silence the lips of your High Priest
If we make the wrong confession or none at all, we give our High Priest nothing to say on our behalf before the throne. Many, especially religious people, bring the Word of God down to their experience instead of bringing their experience up to the Word, and after life's hard knocks they settle for 'it is what it is, my parents suffered and I will too', while envying those who prosper. Instead, decide you are tired of that life and that God is going to bless you.
“If we make no confession at all, we silence the lips of our high priest.”
A better covenant with better promises
Abraham had a covenant with God, so what belonged to God belonged to Abraham, and the New Testament says we have a better covenant with better promises. What is His is yours, and what is yours, including all your cares and problems, is His, so cast your cares on Him.
“You have a covenant with God.”
- Hebrews 8:6
- 1 Peter 5:7
Make the right confession, then hold it fast
Hebrews 3:1 admonishes us to make the right confession, Hebrews 4:14 (step three, taught earlier) tells us to hold fast to it, and Hebrews 10:23 adds 'without wavering'. Our confession enlists His ministry as High Priest, so we never give up or change what we have said when adversities, trials and doctors' reports come.
“We must not change what we have said.”
- Hebrews 3:1
- Hebrews 4:14
- Hebrews 10:23
Be realistic, then resist with the Word
He is realistic: if you need help, go to the doctor, get examined and tested so you know the name of what is wrong, and then believe God, stand on the Word and resist it. Our challenges differ as our faces differ, but we all have the Word of God to resist them.
“I say to people, if you need help, go to the doctor.”
Without wavering
To waver is to falter, wobble, sway to and fro, become unsteady and show doubt about God and His Word. Let God be true and every circumstance and every man a liar; don't vacillate or sit on the fence, but be sure and steadfast, binding God's Word around your neck and your life.
“God said it, I don't care, I believe it.”
- Romans 3:4
- Proverbs 3:3
Putting it into practice
- Say what God's Word says about you even when it feels uncomfortable.
- Don't bring the Word down to your experience; bring your experience up to the Word.
- Hold fast your confession through trials and doctors' reports.
- Get medical help where needed, then stand on the Word and resist.
- Refuse to sit on the fence: be steadfast that God will do what He said.
Closing
He begins to show three successive stages of confession in Hebrews, and the broadcast ends there; the stages are taught in Episode 7.
Declarations he led
- In the name of Jesus, I reject all rejection and I accept the fact that God loves me.

- “Let God be true. Let every circumstance be a liar.”
