Stop Rehearsing What You Do Not Want: Words Release Faith

Dr RJ Sing, 30 min, Part 2 of What Faith Is

Originally recorded as “What Faith Is, Part 2”

Sermon outline

Faith is your servant: you release it with your words and build it by putting the Word first, so speak to your mountain and say what you want to see.

Main text

  • Mark 11:23-24

Opening

He says, 'last week we spoke about faith, and this morning we'll pick up from where we finished last week', and reminds new viewers that he is explaining the elementary principles of faith with seed faith woven in as his example. He urges viewers to pray for presidents, governors and mayors instead of criticising them, because if our leaders fail, we fail. After praying he shares his testimony before returning to Mark 11:23-24, the same foundational scripture as the week before.

  1. A testimony: from Hinduism to the men who taught him faith

He was born and raised a Hindu, yet carried a burning desire to know the true God. At about 21 he heard a voice, found an evangelist and received Christ, and his wife, a practising Muslim, went to church with him that Sunday. He was filled with the Holy Spirit in a Reinhard Bonnke meeting, grew for ten years at Rhema in Randburg under Pastor Ray McCauley, and read all of Kenneth Hagin's and Kenneth Copeland's books.

Illustration: Alone at home studying for an exam, he heard a voice as clear as daylight. He closed his books, got into his car and drove around the area until he found an evangelist.

“Go find a pastor and he will show you the true God.”

  2. Faith is the servant of a believer

As you listen to and read the Word, faith grows, Satan's dominion in your life weakens and circumstances stop looking so overpowering. Expect God to develop your faith every time you put it on the line. Faith is there to serve you, so begin to use it.

“Faith is there to serve you and faith is there present to serve me.”

    • Mark 11:23-24
    • Luke 17:6-10
  3. Faith is the substance of what is desired

Faith is a heavenly substance of what you desire in your heart, and it becomes part of you. As a caution, stop rehearsing what you do not want and keep your eyes on what you do want, because that is where faith grows and manifestation follows. He gives a simple definition of prosperity: excelling in something desired.

“Stop rehearsing what you do not desire from God.”

    • Hebrews 10:34
    • Hebrews 11:1
  4. How is faith released?

Faith is released by words, and he lists scriptures for viewers to look up that show words release power. Action also releases power.

“It is words that release faith.”

    • Mark 11:22-25
    • Romans 10:8
    • James 1:26
    • James 3:2-17
    • James 1:22
    • John 3:21
  5. How is faith developed?

Put the Word first place and make it the final authority in your life: whatever it says you are and can do, say so and do it. Meditate on the Word, which means to consider it, chew on it, rehearse it and remind yourself of it constantly, and act on it. Decide to live by faith and by love, because faith works by love, and receive Jesus as the developer of your faith just as you received him as Saviour.

Illustration: He has found many times in his own life that when he walks out of love his faith does not work, and when he walks in love it works easily.

“Whatever the word says you are, you must say you are.”

    • Galatians 3:11
    • Galatians 5:6
    • Hebrews 12:2
  6. Seed faith: respect the law of sowing and reaping

The law of sowing and reaping is universal: sow love and you reap love, sow hatred and you reap a harvest of hatred. Seed faith is sowing a seed in faith for a specific harvest, exchanging what you have been given for what God has promised. God takes pleasure in the prosperity of his servant and in our receiving what he has provided.

Illustration: A farmer who plants corn reaps corn, and one who plants apple seeds reaps apples.

“Seed faith pulls the future towards you.”

    • Galatians 6:7
    • Luke 6:38
    • Hebrews 11:6
    • Psalm 35:27
  7. Speak to your mountain

Speak to the desired end result and exercise authority without being timid, because boldness brings results. That is how God created the world in Genesis 1: he spoke, and then he saw. Do not say what you are experiencing but the opposite, as Joel 3:10 teaches, and check your speaking life, even asking a spouse or friend to correct you until speaking the Word becomes automatic.

Illustration: His house in Hillcrest would not sell for months. One rainy night at about 11.30, after church, the Spirit prompted him to get out of the car in the driveway and tell the house to be sold in the name of Jesus, and within a month it was sold. When a violent wind damaged most houses in that area, his home and his neighbours' on either side were spared, which he credits to the angels of the Lord.

“You have today what you said yesterday.”

    • Luke 17:6
    • Genesis 1
    • Joel 3:10
  8. Confession will bring possession

What God has provided in Jesus is yours, and the promise of Abraham is yours because you are the seed of Abraham. Confess that you are a spiritual being, the righteousness of God, an heir of God and more than a conqueror. Jesus is at the Father's right hand making intercession, able to save to the uttermost every time we come with a need, and angels are working for the believer.

“Confession, ladies and gentlemen, will bring possession.”

    • Hebrews 7:25
  9. The measure of faith

Reading Romans 12:1-3, he says God has distributed faith to every believer. The issue is not the size of your faith, because Jesus spoke of faith like a mustard seed.

“Even if you have a little faith, begin to use it and you will see that you will get results.”

    • Romans 12:1-3

Putting it into practice

  • Pray for your president, governors and mayors instead of criticising them.
  • Stop rehearsing what you do not want and start saying what you want to see.
  • Put the Word first place, meditate on it and act on it.
  • Speak to your mountain boldly, and ask a spouse or friend to help you watch your words.
  • Use the faith you have, even if it is little, and walk in love so that it works.

Closing

He asks viewers who need healing, finances or a job to raise the right hand or touch the television screen as a point of contact. He takes authority over sickness, binds the spirit of infirmity, prays for those in financial crisis and calls for angels to come from east, west, north and south to minister to their needs, declaring it done. He urges viewers to find a spiritual church once churches reopen, buy a Bible and grow in their faith, and says he looks forward to being with them next week.

In his words

  • “If our leaders fail, ladies and gentlemen, then we fail.”
  • “Faith is there to serve you and faith is there present to serve me.”
  • “Stop rehearsing what you do not desire from God.”
  • “You have today what you said yesterday.”
  • “Being timid will not bring results, but being bold will bring results.”
