- Matthew 26:26-28
Opening
After the programme's opening montage, this edit picks up in the middle of his communion teaching with the declaration that every believer is blessed to be a blessing, meaning an empowerment to prosper. He sets out the Lord's table as a clear line between the things of God and the things of the devil, and as a place of love, fellowship and feasting.
It's a table of feasting, not crumbs
You cannot share the Lord's table and the table of devils, so the table marks a clear separation from the world. It is a place where believers feast, love and fellowship intimately with the Lord. Feasting speaks of abundance, because God is a good God who wants His children blessed and prospering.
Illustration: While preparing that morning, the thought came to him that God did not prepare crumbs for His people.
“At the table, there's no crumbs for you.”
- 1 Corinthians 10:21
Communion is an intimate sharing with Christ
Communion means an intimate sharing of one person with another. At the table you share in everything Christ has done: your weakness becomes His strength, your lack His abundance, your sickness His healing. His touch even turns the urge to get even into love and prayer for those who come against you.
“Your lack becomes His abundance.”
- 1 Corinthians 10:16
What Jesus blesses multiplies
The breaking of bread recalls Jesus taking the bread, blessing it and breaking it. When He blessed a few small fish and loaves they multiplied, and when the disciples ate what He had blessed they became blessed to be a blessing. Communion is not a mere religious tradition: it means we are one with Christ and He lives in us as His walking temple.
Illustration: Jesus giving thanks over a few small fish and bread, and it multiplying.
“When you leave here, there's an anointing for you to multiply.”
- Acts 20:7
- Matthew 26:26
- 1 Corinthians 6:19
God wants to dwell with you and bless you
Eucharist (giving of thanks) and sacrament (holy, set apart) are non-biblical terms with an element of truth. The foundation of the ordinance is God's desire to be with man: Adam hid after sin, but God reconciled us to Himself and now tabernacles in His people. When the church gathers there is a corporate anointing, and wherever God records His name He comes to bless.
Illustration: Angels, as ministering spirits, have no trouble finding the heirs of salvation among millions of people, because believers shine like beams of light.
“Every time God shows up, his sole purpose is to bless you.”
- Genesis 3:8
- Revelation 21:1-3
- Deuteronomy 32:30
- Exodus 25:8
- Hebrews 1:14
- Exodus 20:24
This is your captain speaking
Communion Sunday is not a traditional or historical day but a day of blessing, and he takes communion himself every day. He declares 2014 a year of great success. Just as passengers trust an unseen pilot, believers can trust Jesus, whom they have met and who, unlike a captain who abandons ship, laid down His life for them.
Illustration: A pilot announcing 'this is your captain speaking' to passengers he has never met, set against the captain of a sinking ship who was arrested for being among the first to abandon it.
“I know I'm in safe hands.”
- Psalm 23:5
- Hebrews 2:10
Partake and grab hold of His grace
As the emblems are served he calls people to let go of weakness, the devil's lies and the things of the flesh, and to humble themselves so that God can lift them up. His grace will pay bills, restore marriages, heal and give ideas. Blessing the bread invites God into every situation, so they eat the body and drink the cup as success and the fullness of the Lord.

“His grace will pay your bills.”
- 1 Peter 5:6
- Matthew 26:26-28
- Isaiah 43:19
Putting it into practice
- Come to the Lord's table expecting abundance, not crumbs.
- Say no to the world and the devil as you share in the Lord's Supper.
- Take communion regularly, even daily, at home with your family or in your prayer time.
- Don't miss church: the corporate anointing strengthens you.
- Humble yourself before the Lord and let His grace carry you.
Closing
The congregation eats the bread and drinks the cup standing. He then pronounces a blessing over them, praying for God's face to shine on them, for angels to encamp around them and for protection and speedy recovery, and gives a word that God will grant them accelerated success. He tells them not to keep their eyes on what people are saying or doing, and leads them in clapping their hands to the Lord.
