This is a short edit of Out of the Basin, Onto the Door: Overcoming by the Blood of the Lamb. Watch the full message for the complete teaching.

Sermon outline

The blood of the Passover Lamb covers those who stay in the house, honour the fathers God has set over them and apply the blood by their confession, and Jesus' blood still cries out for mercy over every broken place.

Main text

  • Exodus 12:21-23
  • Revelation 12:11

Opening

After a short television opening on the spoken Word and the power of God, the clip joins him as he reads 1 John 2:17: whoever does the will of God abides forever. He then turns to the Passover to explain what it means to overcome Satan by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony.

  1. Christ our Passover: stay in the house to enjoy the covering

Christ our Passover has been sacrificed for us, so we keep the feast with sincerity and truth, not the old leaven of malice and wickedness. Israel had to apply the blood and then stay inside the house until morning, and the destroyer could not enter. In the same way, God covers us while we walk in the light and fellowship with Him, but stepping back into darkness means stepping out from under the covering.

“As long as you're walking in the light and having fellowship with God, God covers you.”

    • 1 Corinthians 5:7-9
    • Exodus 12:21-23
    • 1 John 1:7
  2. A tremendous responsibility to fathers

The fathers of Israel had to apply the blood, yet today we have almost a fatherless generation of absent, dysfunctional or runaway fathers. In the church many refuse to submit to the five-fold ministry out of rebellion, but we must clothe ourselves with humility and come under authority so that we can be fathered. A father corrects and rebukes you and brings you back into line with God's plan. In the family men must take their place, and where they are absent, women must pray over, protect and instruct the family.

Illustration: Some say they cannot respect a pastor because he is younger than them, yet they call Jesus Lord, and He died at 33. He calls that religion, the little leaven that leavens the whole lump.

“A father always brings you back in alignment with God's will and plan and purpose.”

    • 1 Corinthians 4:15
    • Galatians 5:9
  3. Honour the office

God does not ask you to honour a man for his own sake but to honour the office, so that the blessing on that office can reach you. The commandment to honour your parents carries a promise, and in the same way honouring your spiritual parents lets God multiply and bless you. People often forget that they prospered in the house of God.

Illustration: Lot prospered because he was joined to Abraham, but when Abraham offered him the choice of land, he chose for himself instead of honouring his uncle and asking for his blessing. He adds his own testimony: before he met God he was nobody, and his prosperity came when he began to honour men and women of God.

“God wants you to honor the office so that you can get the blessings that come out of the office.”

    • Exodus 20:12
    • Genesis 13:8-11
  4. Keep yourself small in your own eyes

The Lord told him to keep himself small in his own eyes, because as God prospers people they can become puffed up, and pride comes before a fall. Give God the credit for your car, clothes, family, house, victories and healing, since He is Jehovah Rapha. Humility is not weakness: Moses was the meekest man, yet when he stood before Pharaoh he saw results.

Illustration: Moses protested that he could not speak, so God gave him Aaron as his spokesman, yet when Moses threw down his rod before Pharaoh he saw results. A meek, humble person is like an aroma that shows Christ has done something in them.

“Humility is strength because it's harnessed power.”

    • Exodus 15:26
    • Numbers 12:3
    • Exodus 4:10-16
  5. Number one: the blood in the basin will not help you

The blood protected no one while it stayed in the basin; it had to be applied to the lintel and doorposts. In the new covenant we move it from the basin to where we live by the confession of our mouth, and obedience comes before the sprinkling of the blood. Make your words agree with the Word, do not call yourself sick and weak, do not apologise when you prosper, and let the redeemed of the Lord say so. Every morning, cover your mind, body, children, home and possessions with the blood.

Illustration: When people envy your prosperity and wonder how you are doing it, let them wonder, because you are a sign and a wonder.

    “No confession, no protection.”

    • 1 Peter 1:1-2
    • Revelation 12:11
    • Hebrews 3:1
    • Psalm 107:2
    • 2 Timothy 1:7
    • Genesis 15:1
  6. Abel's blood and Jesus' blood

As the church receives communion, he says he once taught that the bread and wine were only symbolic and now repents of that. He gives three contrasts: Abel's blood was shed against his will, but Jesus gave His willingly; Abel's blood was sprinkled on the earth, but Jesus' blood on the mercy seat; Abel's blood calls for vengeance, but Jesus' blood calls for mercy. Whatever is broken or limping in your life, call on the Lord and He will come.

“Abel's blood calls out for vengeance. Jesus' blood calls out for mercy.”

    • Hebrews 12:24
    • Hebrews 4:15
    • Joel 2:32
    • 1 Corinthians 11:26

Putting it into practice

  • Stay in fellowship with God and walk in the light to remain under the covering.
  • Fathers, take your place to pray over, protect and instruct your family.
  • Honour your spiritual leaders and the office they carry.
  • Keep yourself small in your own eyes and give God the credit.
  • Speak the blood over your mind, body, children, home and possessions every day.

Closing

He leads the church through the bread and the cup, declaring that God loves them unconditionally and that they have received His mercy and strength. He then blesses them with wisdom, witty inventions, ideas, divine connections and encounters, success and increase, ending with 'Get ready for increase.'

Declarations he led

  • I'm covered by the blood of Jesus Christ.
  • Lord, no accident, no plague, no calamity, no sickness, no destruction.
  • Lord Jesus, we receive this bread as your flesh.
  • Lord Jesus, I receive the cup as your blood. And as I do this, I proclaim your death until you come.

In his words

  • “As long as you're walking in the light and having fellowship with God, God covers you.”
  • “God wants you to honor the office so that you can get the blessings that come out of the office.”
  • “Humility is strength because it's harnessed power.”
  • “See, no confession, no high priest. No confession, no protection.”
  • “Abel's blood calls out for vengeance. Jesus' blood calls out for mercy.”
