Sermon outline

Jesus shed His blood seven times to become our final sin offering, and we overcome Satan when we stay under that blood and personally testify to what the Word says it does for us.

Main text

  • Revelation 12:11
  • Exodus 12:21-23

Opening

After a short television opening on the power of the spoken Word, he turns to Revelation 12:11 because he wants to talk about the blood. Following the recent deliverance service, he thanks God that the blood has cleansed their past and broken every curse, and has the church confess that we overcome Satan by testifying to what the blood does.

  1. We overcome when we testify to what the blood does

The precious truth of Revelation 12:11 is that we overcome Satan by what we say the Word of God says the blood of Jesus does. The blood has cleansed our past and shattered every curse.

“We overcome by what we say that the word of God does.”

    • Revelation 12:11
  2. The sevenfold shedding of the blood

Jesus shed His blood in seven places: in Gethsemane, when His sweat fell like great drops of blood; in the high priest's house when they struck His face; when they plucked out His beard; when He was scourged in Pilate's court; under the crown of thorns; when the nails were driven into His hands and feet; and when the soldier's spear pierced His side. Because the life of the flesh is in the blood, Jesus poured out His soul and became the final sin offering.

Illustration: Historians say the thorns in Israel are long and sharp; forced down on His head, they cut through His skin into His skull until He could not be recognised.

“Jesus became the final sin offering.”

    • Luke 22:44
    • Isaiah 52:14
    • John 19:34
    • Leviticus 17:11
    • Isaiah 53:12
  3. Two ways we overcome the enemy

There is a direct conflict between Christians and Satan, and we overcome by two things: the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony. Christians ought to love Jesus more than their own lives, and there are fights to be fought, so be strong in the Lord and the power of His might.

Illustration: A soldier who joins the army does not ask the recruiter for a guarantee that he will not die; his zeal for his country overrides the risk.

“We're not on a cruise ship going on holiday. We're dealing with real stuff.”

    • Revelation 12:11
    • Ephesians 6:10
  4. Stay in the house under the blood

As long as you do the will of God you will abide forever. Turning to the Passover, he reads that Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us, so we purge out the old leaven and keep the feast with sincerity and truth. Israel had to stay inside the house marked with blood until morning to enjoy its covering. In the same way, God covers us while we walk in the light and fellowship with Him, but stepping back into darkness means stepping out from under the protection.

“As long as you're walking in the light and having fellowship with God, God covers you.”

    • 1 John 2:17
    • 1 Corinthians 5:7-9
    • Exodus 12:21-23
    • 1 John 1:7
  5. The fathers applied the blood

The fathers of Israel had to apply the blood, yet today we have almost a fatherless generation, and in church many refuse to submit out of rebellion. Men must take their place to pray over, protect and instruct the family, and where they are absent the women must. Honour your spiritual fathers and the office they carry so the blessing on that office can flow to you.

Illustration: Some say they cannot respect a pastor younger than them, yet they call Jesus Lord, and He died at 33. Lot prospered because he was joined to Abraham, but when given the choice he took the best land instead of honouring his uncle.

“God wants you to honor the office so that you can get the blessings that come out of the office.”

    • 1 Peter 5:5
    • 1 Corinthians 4:15
    • Galatians 5:9
    • Exodus 20:12
  6. Keep yourself small in your own eyes

Many forget that they prospered in the house of God and become proud as God blesses them, but pride comes before a fall. Give God the credit for your car, clothes, family, house, victories and healing. Humility is not weakness but harnessed power, as with Moses, the meekest man, who saw results before Pharaoh.

Illustration: His own testimony: before he met God he was nobody, and his prosperity came when he began to honour men and women of God. God told him to keep himself small in his own eyes.

“Humility is strength. Because it's harnessed power.”

    • Genesis 13:8-11
    • Proverbs 16:18
    • Exodus 15:26
    • Numbers 12:3
    • Exodus 4:10-16
  7. Number one: the blood in the basin will not help you

The blood protected no one while it stayed in the basin; it had to be applied with hyssop to the lintel and doorposts. Christ is our Passover, and we move the blood from the basin to where we live by the confession of our mouth. Obedience comes before the sprinkling of the blood, so make your words agree with the Word of God and do not apologise when you prosper.

Illustration: When people envy you and wonder how you are doing it, let them wonder, because you are a sign and a wonder.

    “No confession, no protection.”

    • Exodus 12:22
    • 1 Peter 1:1-2
    • 1 Corinthians 5:7
    • Hebrews 3:1
