Say It Until It Soaks In: You Are Made in God's Likeness

Dr RJ Sing, 17 min, Part 3 of Resting in the Righteousness of God

Originally preached as “Resting in the Righteousness of God, Part 3”

Sermon outline

Born again, you are made in the image and likeness of God, so let the mind of Christ be in you and think, speak and act like Him instead of living small.

Main text

  • Genesis 1:26-27
  • Philippians 2:5-6

Opening

He says 'Okay, let's go on, Genesis 1:26', and this recording repeats the end of Part 2 almost word for word: religious people who cannot speak faith, man made in God's image as a speaking spirit, and Jesus the radical man. He then moves on through further scriptures showing that man is made in the likeness of God.

  1. Made in His image to have dominion (continued from Part 2)

God made man in His own image and told him to have dominion. The first Adam lost that dominion and Jesus won it back for the born-again believer. As a spirit like God, you can speak and decree, and Jesus Himself spoke to bread, fish, water, the dead and the storm.

“The first Adam lost dominion. The second Adam, Jesus Christ, won back dominion.”

    • Genesis 1:26-27
    • John 4:24
    • Mark 11:23
    • John 14:13-14
    • John 16:23-24
    • John 11:43
    • Matthew 14:19
    • Matthew 17:27
    • John 2:1-11
    • Mark 4:37-41
  2. Whatever He tells you to do, do it

He stops to give a word from the Lord: some in the meeting have been told to sow a radical seed for their breakthrough but are holding back because it seems too much. You will not get the breakthrough until you sow what He told you to sow. God is a big God who wants to bless you radically.

“Because your miracle is in your seed.”

  3. Made in the likeness of God

Genesis 5:1 repeats that God made man in His likeness, and 1 Corinthians 11:7 calls man the image and glory of God, so you are not inferior. You are recreated with His Spirit in you, walking in His likeness. Christ thought abundance: He healed the sick, multiplied a little boy's lunch and turned water into wine.

Illustration: The Lord told him in his heart to say 'I'm a millionaire'. At first he could not get the words out, but he kept saying it, more boldly each time, until he believed it and it soaked into his spirit.

“And I went on saying it until it soaked in my spirit.”

    • Genesis 5:1
    • 1 Corinthians 11:7
    • John 6:9
  4. Made after the similitude of God

James 3:9 is about the tongue, but it says men are made after the similitude of God. The treasure in our earthen vessels is God's Spirit, so we cannot be defeated or go under, and the blessing of the Lord comes upon us and overtakes us.

“I'm made in the image and likeness of God. God lives on the inside of me.”

    • James 3:9
    • 2 Corinthians 4:7
    • Deuteronomy 28:2
  5. Let this mind be in you

The mind of Christ is that, being in the form of God, He thought it not robbery to be equal with God. Religious people crucified Jesus for the same claim, but every scripture so far says you are made in God's image and glory. Don't aim to die quietly insignificant: God has called you to shake your nation and city, pray your unsaved family into the kingdom, and say goodbye to poverty and sickness.

Illustration: Some say, 'I just want to tiptoe through the tulips and die quietly insignificant.' He answers, 'No, no, no.'

“God's made you unique. God's called you for great things.”

    • Philippians 2:5-6

Putting it into practice

  • Obey promptly whatever God tells you to do, including the seed He asks you to sow.
  • Keep confessing what God says about you until you believe it.
  • Think like Christ: think abundance, not lack.
  • Speak and decree salvation over your unsaved family, and tell poverty and sickness to go.

Closing

He announces Galatians 4, says he is nearly finished, and has the church tell their neighbours 'Let this mind be in you'. The recording ends there.

Declarations he led

  • Let this mind be in me.
  • I cannot be defeated. I cannot go under. I cannot be weak.
  • The blessing of the Lord cometh upon me. The blessing of the Lord overtaketh me.
  • I'm made in the image and likeness of God. God lives on the inside of me. I'm just like God. I'm His Son.

In his words

  • “Whatever he told you to sow, do it. Whatever he told you to do, do it.”
  • “Because your miracle is in your seed.”
  • “So, you're not inferior. You are special.”
  • “I'm just like God. He's bigger. But I'm just like him.”
  • “God's made you unique. God's called you for great things.”
