Miracles Are for Reachers: Seven Things Every Miracle Needs
Dr RJ Sing, 18 min, Part 5 of Lockdown Messages 2020
Originally recorded as “Seven Essential Ingredients for Miracles”
Sermon outline
Every miracle has the same ingredients, so if you need one you can know what to do: need it, reach for it, have someone pleading with you, believe you qualify, trust God's character, obey his instruction and keep your expectation high.
Main text
- Luke 8:40-56
Opening
He introduces himself as Dr Roshan Sing of Rhema FCI Durban in South Africa and prays that the word will fall on good ground. He announces "the seven hidden essential ingredients in every miracle" and reads the NIV account of Jairus's daughter and the woman who touched the edge of Jesus' cloak.
This is your season: faith is voice activated
Before the seven points he speaks a run of faith statements over listeners. Turn your words into pictures and see yourself healed; schedule faith talk, not negative talk. He says this is crop time after much sowing, that God is saying yes, and that mountains which blocked them are moving.
Illustration: Rain in its season: he sees seeds growing in listeners' homes and rain falling on their lives.
“Every word is a seed and every seed grows.”
- 2 Corinthians 1:20
- Leviticus 26:4
1. You must need a miracle before you can have one
Desperation is where faith begins. Miracles are for the hungry and for people who keep their eyes on the miracle, and you must be willing to put forth an effort for it to manifest.
“Miracles are for reachers.”
2. You must be a reacher; you cannot be passive
You have to put some action to your faith. The woman reached for Jesus' cloak, and when she touched it virtue left the Master and healed her.
Illustration: The woman with the issue of blood reaching through the crowd for the edge of his cloak.
“Passive people hardly ever get anything. But a reacher gets a miracle.”
- Luke 8:43-48
3. You must be a pleader, or have an intercessor
You need someone who intercedes with you. Satan needs agreement from believers to neutralise them, but when people pray, angels are released to help.
Illustration: Abraham interceding for Lot, and the church praying when Peter was put in prison.
“Your intercessor is your friend.”
- Genesis 18:23-33
- Acts 12:5
4. You must believe in your worthiness
Most people do not think they qualify for a miracle. God loves you, you have been bought with a price, and he is passionate to get that miracle to you, whatever anyone has said to you.
“You are worthy of God's love and worthy of God's gifts.”
5. You must have confidence in the character of God
What God has said, he will do. Your confidence rests on who he is.
“If God said it, He will do it.”
- Numbers 23:19
6. You must listen for the unique instruction for your miracle
God will give you an instruction, and miracles follow. Do it even if it looks ludicrous or silly in the eyes of people, because you are the one reaching out.
“When you have an instruction from the Lord, you go and do it.”
7. Keep your expectations high
Tell God what you want and shift yourself into a higher gear. Today may be bad, but things can change in the next hour, the next day, the next week. Tell your family that things are going to change.
“Don't be a pessimist. Be an optimist.”
Putting it into practice
- Speak faith, not negative talk.
- Reach for your miracle and put some action to it.
- Find an intercessor to stand with you.
- Believe that you qualify for a miracle.
- Obey the instruction God gives you and keep your expectation high.
Closing
He recaps the seven points so listeners can remember them, then speaks a series of declarations over their lives, including Ephesians 3:20. He leads a simple prayer to receive Jesus as Lord and Saviour and encourages new believers to find a Spirit-filled church.
Declarations he led
- I declare that you are special and extraordinary. You are not average. You are one of a kind.
- I declare over your life, Ephesians chapter 3 verse 20. God will do exceedingly abundantly above all that you think and ask.
- I declare that God will accelerate His plan for your life.
In his words
- “Every word is a seed and every seed grows.”
- “Waiting is proof of trust.”
- “Miracles are for reachers.”
- “Passive people hardly ever get anything. But a reacher gets a miracle.”
- “When you have your expectations high, your miracle will come.”
