You Cannot Conjure Up a Miracle: Eight Signs You Are Anointed

Originally recorded as “The Anointing”
Sermon outline
You do not need other people to keep reaffirming that you are anointed; Scripture gives clear signs you can recognise in your own life and ministry.
Main text
- Acts 10:38
Opening
He welcomes viewers on every platform and asks them to take a Bible, a pen and a notebook. He reads Acts 10:38 and says that as God was with Jesus then, Jesus is with us now. He then takes up a question people often ask, how will I know when I am anointed, and offers eight biblical pointers.
1. You begin to do things your mentor or father does
Doing what your spiritual father does is a sign that you are carrying his anointing. Elisha did the same kinds of miracles as Elijah, and twice as many, because that was his portion.
Illustration: While writing one day he realised that the format of his own books was that of a man of God he had listened to for years, and he knew a portion of that man's anointing for writing had come onto his life.
“When you begin to do certain things that your mentor or your father does, it is a sign that you are carrying his anointing.”
2. People make particular comments about your preaching
Every preacher hears comments after ministering, but certain remarks show that people have noticed an anointing. The crowds were astonished at Jesus' doctrine, his wisdom, his understanding and his answers.
Illustration: When he first started to preach, the things people said afterwards made him acknowledge that the anointings of other men and women of God had trickled into his life.
“They knew that Jesus was carrying an anointing.”
- Matthew 7:28
- Mark 6:2
- Luke 2:47
3. Healing is a sign that you are anointed
A preacher can raise his voice, crack jokes and use all sorts of human elements in his presentation. Genuine miracles, though, only take place by the anointing of God, so when they happen as you pray for people you must know that you are anointed.
“You cannot conjure up genuine miracles.”
- Acts 10:38
4. Ministering to poor people is a sign of the anointing
Most people minister in easy, accessible churches, cities and platforms, and very few preach to the poor. The gospel was ordained for the poor. If you go where people are poor and danger is lurking, the Spirit of the Lord is on you.
“Most preachers are guided by financial realities and the absence of danger.”
- Luke 4:18
5. Evangelism is a sign of the anointing
Jesus said the presence of the Holy Spirit would be the power to witness. Churches have sometimes replaced the anointing with natural things, but what is needed is the genuine anointing of God to help people change.
“The absence of evangelism is a sign of a lack of the Holy Spirit and the anointing.”
- Acts 1:8
6. Missions to the ends of the world is a sign of the anointing
A passion to pick up the Bible and preach, and a strong desire to see people saved, is a sure sign that you are anointed.
“You will notice how the Holy Spirit and the anointing drives you to the ends of the world with the gospel.”
7. Travelling to minister is a sign of the anointing
Jesus went about doing good. He did not stay in one place but went through many towns and villages, because he was anointed to travel and do the work of God.
“He travelled where the souls were.”
- Acts 10:38
8. Various good works are signs of the anointing
Many non-specific works flow from the anointing: healing, preaching, encouraging people. People carry anointings for wealth, for healing, for salvation and more. The anointing can make you into someone else and put certain desires in you.
“You don't need other people to constantly reaffirm that you are anointed.”
- Acts 10:38
- Mark 1:18
Putting it into practice
- Notice what you have picked up from those who mentor you.
- Pay attention to what people say after you minister.
- Take the gospel to the poor and to hard places, not only to easy platforms.
- Do not replace the anointing with natural things in church.
- Pray for governments, mayors, business people and the economy.
Closing
He speaks declarations over listeners that sickness, trouble, lack and mediocrity are only temporary and that God has a master plan for their lives. He calls Christians to pray through the global pandemic for governments, mayors, business people and the economy, because all things are under Jesus' feet and the devil will not overcome them. He ends by telling listeners that he loves them and ministers to them with love.
Declarations he led
- I declare that God is working all things together for your good. He has a master plan for your life.
- I declare that God will do big things in your life. I declare that you will pray bold prayers.
- I declare that you will not sink or give up but you will arise and be strong.
In his words
- “You cannot conjure up genuine miracles.”
- “Preaching really is meant for the poor.”
- “The absence of evangelism is a sign of a lack of the Holy Spirit and the anointing.”
- “The devil is under our feet. He's not above us.”
- “It is with love that I minister to you.”
