Originally recorded as “The Kingly Anointing”
Sermon outline
God has made every believer a king and a priest, and the kingly anointing on your life brings recovery, progress, favour and a changed heart, along with opposition that you answer by holding your peace and pressing on.
Main text
- 1 Samuel 10:1
- Revelation 1:5-6
Opening
He welcomes those watching on YouTube and social media because the church cannot gather, and recalls last week's word: do not let fear grip your heart, let the love of God overcome it. He reads Samuel anointing Saul and Revelation 1:5-6, and says believers are not servants or slaves but sons, made kings and priests, blessed to be a blessing wherever their feet tread.
1. You will recover things that you have lost
After you are anointed, the things lost along the way in life are found again. God, by his grace and love, brings them back to you.
“The kingly anointing will cause you to find things that you have lost.”
2. The kingly anointing will make you go forward and progress in life
When the anointing is functioning in your life and you are aware of its presence, you do not go backwards. Saul was told to go forward from where he stood.
Illustration: Saul going forward to the plain of Tabor and meeting three men on their way up to God at Bethel.
“It will make you go forward and cause you to progress in life.”
- 1 Samuel 10:3
3. The kingly anointing will make men and women salute you
People take note of you and give you respect and honour. Those who despised you are forced to recognise you as a force to be reckoned with, and the anointing brings you to the forefront before great men and women.
“You will no longer be ignored and disregarded.”
4. The kingly anointing will cause men to give to you
You will enjoy favour and good success. Because of the anointing, people come to you with gifts and offerings, and wherever you go it causes you to prosper.
“To walk in the kingly anointing will cause men and women to bless you.”
- 1 Samuel 10:4
5. You will go into God's presence
You find yourself spending more time in the house of God. A thousand things are thrown at you, but something keeps pulling you aside to seek his presence.
“Once you taste the presence of God, nothing will satisfy you like the presence of God.”
- 1 Samuel 10:5
6. The anointing will set you up to meet certain people
The anointing arranges the meetings that move you on.
“The anointing will take you to your next level.”
7. The kingly anointing will make you prophesy
There are times God will call you to speak under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, over someone else, over your family or over yourself. Those words are anointed and will come to pass.
“To prophesy is to speak under the guidance and inspiration of the Holy Spirit.”
8. You will be transformed into another man and another woman
Others may function in life as ordinary people, but not you. People who knew you before you were anointed will be unable to relate to you in your transformed state.
“The anointing turns you into another man.”
- 1 Samuel 10:6
9. You will do as occasion serve thee
Your decisions will be inspired. The Spirit of God leads and guides each one.
“Your mistakes will become fewer and the wise decisions, the wisdom decisions will be greater in your life.”
- 1 Samuel 10:7
10. Your heart will be changed
God had to give Saul another heart with which to carry the anointing. He has given his children another heart too, a heart after God, and that is what you function with.
“Without a change of heart you cannot receive the anointing nor use it.”
- 1 Samuel 10:9
11. Your calling will be questioned
You cannot enter the realm of ministry without being questioned or resisted. The enemy brings doubt, unbelief and fear, and people who function by reasoning will try to make you doubt yourself. Persist and press through.
“When your calling will be questioned, it doesn't mean to say that you're not called.”
12. The kingly anointing will cause many people to support you
When you think you are alone, someone comes alongside you. As your level and your assignment increase, you need not fear being left unsupported in your vision.
Illustration: All the people shouting "God save the king" when Samuel presented Saul.
“God will bring the right people at the right time to support you in your assignment.”
- 1 Samuel 10:24
13. Some people's hearts will be touched to follow you
People you know and people you do not know will come to seek out your wisdom, because they are seeking the wisdom of God.
Illustration: The band of men whose hearts God had touched going home with Saul to Gibeah.
“God will touch people's hearts to join themselves to you.”
- 1 Samuel 10:26
14. The kingly anointing will stir up opposition
Just when God is using you and you expect everyone to agree with you, the devil stirs up opposition. Satan is equally inspired to oppose everything God does in your life. Do not doubt yourself; believe that God is for you and press on.
Illustration: The children of Belial asking, "How shall this man save us?"
“The presence of opposition is surely a sign of God's anointing on your life.”
- 1 Samuel 10:27
15. The kingly anointing will stir up despisement
Some people will despise you and be jealous of you, not because you are wrong. You do not have to explain yourself to those who are carnally minded, and you do not have to pick up their spirit. Hold your peace, walk in love, take heart and press on.
Illustration: They despised Saul and brought him no presents, "but he held his peace".
“If God is satisfied with you, if the Spirit of God is satisfied with you, then you be satisfied with yourself.”
- 1 Samuel 10:27
- 1 Peter 4:8
Putting it into practice
- Know that you carry a kingly anointing and are not ordinary.
- Expect to recover what you lost and to go forward.
- Do not doubt your calling when it is questioned or opposed.
- Hold your peace with mockers and walk in love; you do not have to explain yourself.
- Take heart and press on, wherever you serve.
Closing
He tells business men and women that the kingly anointing will bring them business from the east, the west, the north and the south and draw resources to them. He asks listeners to raise their right hand towards him and prays that the kingly anointing will operate in their lives and that God will open doors for them "when things are shutting down", then blesses their families, workplaces and children.
In his words
- “We are just not servants or slaves, but we are sons of the living God.”
- “Once you taste the presence of God, nothing will satisfy you like the presence of God.”
- “The presence of opposition is surely a sign of God's anointing on your life.”
- “If God is satisfied with you, if the Spirit of God is satisfied with you, then you be satisfied with yourself.”
- “God has not left you to be ordinary.”
